Fixls were invented to heal the environment. They inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, similarly to plants, and the harder they work, the more CO2 they remove from the air. To this end, they are encouraged to battle one another; the energy expended in a single battle between Silver-class Fixls can remove a pound of CO2 and other pollutants from the air. They heal quickly, though, and the battles are never fatal; Fixls are robust enough that a quick bath in the tanks of green goo at a field office will fully restore them.

To encourage people to get and use Fixls, the Foundation has released the Kytt line, which start off generic and can be upgraded to forms like this. Gadgytt is a household Fixl with an affinity for machines; it can perform simple repair jobs and sometimes assembles pieces of junk it’s collected into strange little toys of unclear purpose.

Gadgytt is Silver-class and Metal-type. Silver is the second of the four Fixl classes; Bronze are small and not-too-powerful but easy to care for, Gold are the large ones that only professional Fixl trainers handle, and Platinum are the massive unique ones with their own free will. Nobody ever trains a Platinum Fixl, but they can be befriended, and proving to one that you’re trustworthy can be rewarding. Metal is one of the twenty Fixl types (others being Fire, Water, Myth, Cosmic, and such). A Fixl can have up to two (or rarely none at all), and each one grants a Fixl bonus power on like-typed moves, while taking additional damage from each of two other types. Metal Fixls are vulnerable to Water and Toxic attacks, which rust or grime up their mechanisms. The main benefit of typing, though, is that each type has a related “field move” it can perform - one meant to be used outside of battle. Metal Fixls can be ridden like vehicles - Gadgytt here is durable enough to support a fully-grown human with a loaded backpack and speedy enough to outpace a bicycle.
