I didn't go to Further Confusion 2011 with the intention of buying a lot of art. Indeed, I fully intended to spend very little in the way of money so I'd have more to spread out over the rest of the year. But when my good friends Byzil and Kalemendrax were getting commissions for themselves at Nambroth's table, I couldn't resist splurging a little bit. I've been a fan of her art for quite a long while, and I DID have it in mind to commission her for a pic of my avatar someday. I guess that day was the day! ^^

I wasn't quite sure what I wanted at first (Commissioners, do you ever feel that way? You spend so much time and attention just trying to get a slot at an artist's table, that by the time they ask you "so what do you want me to draw," you just blink dumbfoundedly, not having the slightest clue? Isn't it embarrassing? ...But I digress... ) but then I realized that I didn't really have anything in my gallery that showed Arc in flight. Some of the example works that Nambroth had on display looked absolutely AMAZING, so I asked her if she could do something similar with my avatar.

...And this little piece of beauty was the result of it all! Can you believe it was entirely done during the con? I'm still amazed at just how incredible it turned out! From the subtle coloration to the facial expression, the atmosphere just feels so serene. In spite of all the hassles of commercial air travel, a picture like this really brings back that sense of awe and wonder to the act of flying. It feels almost magical in a way. I think I'm going to frame this and put it in my living room. :)
