Aaahhhh two weeks of work has finally payed off! This piece was a royal pain in the butt to make start to finish, but my god if it hasn’t improved my art by leaps and bounds I don’t know what has. It didn’t come out the way I had originally planned, I wanted to fit so much detail into a tiny 1000X1000 canvas without taking anything away from the personality of the character I was working with, and since I don’t often work with backgrounds that was just a task far too great for me to tackle. I had to expand the canvas, then shrink it down again, and I used so many effect and blending layers I think I forgot how to pick a shading palette by hand! I pulled so many new techniques off in one form or another, and I just hope I remember how to use them for my next piece! All things considered, however, I’m really proud of how it came out. Though the figure itself is a little more up my alley, the background and the intensity of the lighting pushed me waaay out of my comfort zone in the best of ways. So much blood, sweat and even a fair amount of tears went into nailing perspective and lighting, and while it isn’t perfect, it’s still a huge accomplishment for me. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll even ask for the character owner’s permission to re-draw it one day! ^^ Speaking of the character, let’s talk about this lovely lady! Our star performance today was by none other than the lovely Lavender, owned by none other than BloodAngel! I absolutely adore her soft pastel color palette, and it was wonderful to get back to a fluffy species after working so much with sharks, reptiles and arachnids lately! BloodAngel is a super cool artist and a super chill gal, go give her a holler and ask about her commissions while you’re over there! Here’s BloodAngel’s Amino! http://aminoapps.com/p/69mpy4
