Twilight’s Log #835
Magic Analysis Experiments #27
Subject: Tirek

After preparing my work area down in the lower corridors of Canterlot castle, I prepare for tonight’s experiments. These lower rooms are ideal to conduct my studies as they are rarely used and I can work without risk of interruption. The room is fairly large and has provided an ideal workspace for my experiments. I draw out the transmutation circle on the smooth stone floor in which I use to analyze the nature and properties of the magic samples I have obtained.

Every creature’s magic holds different properties and abilities. I believe that with study and practice, these powers can be harnessed and used for the benefit of all Ponykind. Many breakthroughs have been made thus far and I’m hoping tonight’s tests yields similar results. Tonight’s subject has taken time to procure. I have searched for many moons to collect a few small samples of Tirek’s DNA. Only a few hair strands, a chip of horn and a bit of fur, but I hope it is enough to work with. It has proven difficult to find genuine samples. Lastly, I managed to extract a sample of Tirek’s magic from the stone statue of Tirek, Queen Chrysalis and Cozy Glow deep in the palace labyrinth. I kept the magic in a small glass bottle in preparation for tonight’s analysis. Lord Tirek’s restorative abilities by absorbing magic could help countless creatures if properly harnessed.

I lit a few candles and placed the bits of hair and horn into the center of the transmutation circle to begin the analysis. The circle glows bright with alicorn magic as the samples rise up towards eye level. The faint light they emit proves they are indeed from Lord Tirek. I let out a deep breath and uncorked the bottle of Tirek’s magic. It seemed sluggish at first but once it was surrounded by the aura of my alicorn magic, it quickly perked up. The magic surrounded the bits of fur and horn in a flurry of activity. It glowed a bright orange and swirled around with energy. Using a magnification spell, I was able to get a closer look at what was going on. His magic was energizing the cellular structures of the samples. They seemed primed to begin growing and restoring their genetic code, however it didn’t appear that there was enough material to start the process. I increased the amount of my magic to watch the cells quiver with energy. Fascinating! Could his magic be powerful enough to regrow Tirek himself if there was enough material to work with? What limits did it have to restore genetic structures to a healthy state? If only Tirek could have been reformed. His magic could have been a boon to the medical field!

I feverishly jotted down my findings as further research was needed in order to understand, harness and mimic such powers myself. Perhaps Starlight and Sunburst could help me in my research to master this? I continued to power the reaction before me though I was unprepared for what would happen next.
In my enthusiasm of studying the experiment, I had failed to notice that my quill had caught a strand of my long flowing mane. As the quill quickly moved to scribble down more of my findings, it pulled out the long hair. The strand fluttered down and fell into the transmutation circle powered up with an abundance of restorative power and my alicorn magic. My DNA had contaminated the experiment and had started a chain reaction. There was a brilliant flash of light and I was thrown backwards a few feet. I gazed back at the circle and the swirl of orange and purple magic that was happening before my eyes. The introduction of my hair had acted as a catalysis to jumpstart the reaction. Tirek’s restorative power now had enough DNA to begin the process. I had supplied it with so much magic that it didn’t care that not all of the material wasn’t Tirek’s, but instead fused together both sets of genetic blueprints. I could only watch in shock as the beginnings of a new body started to build itself. Bones grew and were quickly covered in flesh and fur. Muscle and sinew spread over the growing form as a creature was taking shape. Dear Celestia, what had I done? In my reckless pursuit of studying Tirek’s magic, had I given rise to his rebirth? Had I doomed all of Equestria with my actions?

As quickly as the reaction had started, it stopped. The room was filled with a purple smoke that sparkled with spent magic. Through the haze, the glow of the transmutation circle could be seen. In its center, something was there, and it was moving! I cautiously approached the creature, afraid of what I might find. The sparkling smoke parted and I was met with a bizarre creature. It was the size of a large foal but was strangely bipedal. It was covered in short fur similar to Tirek but pinker in colour. Its mane and tail were pale with accents of my purple mane in it. A small pair of wings graced its back and atop its head there was not only a small unicorn horn but on the back of its head were the beginnings of two larger horns. Wings and horns? Could this strange creature be part alicorn? I must have made a small gasp as I had gotten its attention. It angled its head at me and I got a proper look at its face for the first time. It was small, rounded and was framed by locks of pale hair around its face. Out of the hair wiggled its long ears, but there were twice as many as it should have. Though, most surprising were its eyes. Four bright golden eyes stared up at me. Bright gold irises set against dark black sclera. It stared quizzically up at me. As we gazed at each other, I could tell that this small creature didn’t mean me any harm. I bent down to examine the creature closer. As I did so, it giggled playfully at me and showed a tiny set of pointed teeth. It then clumsily stood up on its back legs and reached out to touch my face. It was uneasy on its feet but this creature was definitely bipedal.

My mind raced with thoughts. The restorative power of Tirek’s magic had created this strange creature out of his and my genetic structure. This was unheard of and unnatural, but the results were right in front of me. Would it be like Tirek? Would it become a danger to Equestria? If I was part of this creature makeup, would I be in some twisted way, its mother? Dear Celestia, would this thing be considered my daughter?

My racing thoughts were quickly broken as this creature hugged my face happily and giggled. It seemed to be like an infant, a child. I couldn’t hold it accountable for its… “father’s” actions. It was given life and deserved to live no matter how it was created. I magically picked it up and held it close to my chest. It cooed softly and curled up against me. Upon closer inspection, I could see that this creature was female. A sweet little girl that only wanted the love of a parent. A right that any foal deserved no matter how it was born. I smiled as she fell asleep listening to my heartbeat. I couldn’t continue my experiments any further tonight. The samples of DNA and magic had been spent in the creation of this child and, right now, she needed me more than my pursuit of knowledge. I blew out the remaining candles and prepared to reenter the castle proper. I know that I would have a lot of explaining to do once Spike and the Royal Guard saw me with this child. I will need to make sure that she is properly cared for and study her as she grows up. I’ll have to have the Guards keep a close eye on her. She is still part of Tirek’s bloodline and who knows what powers she has. We will have to help her master them and use them properly. Though, those are things we will have to plan for in the moons to come. For now, let’s find you a soft place to sleep, little… little…?
“You need a name, don’t you? “
“Given your dark colours and that you were created by magic, I shall name you, Hex.”
“Come on, little Hex, let’s get you to bed.”
