Avalonian combat armour - By Fetalstar

Antinov

Given his unique body build and overall size, Anti tends to stick with a smaller array of clothing and protective gear, as getting things made to fit isn't cheap nor quick. From civilian clothes to combat armour, most objects need to be bespoke made for his anatomy and size. Or shipped great distances from Avalon where the rest of his kind mostly live. Given that his armour needs to be made bespokely anyhow, it gives Anti the opportunity to have a very customized set compared to the average field operative, even factoring in his rank. As with most of his equipment, it is more or less bespokely made by the special engineering division known as BEO ([Bleu Eskadra Obrabotka] Blue Fleet Manufacturing, when taken from the Russo Imperial language).

BEO. 'Protecta' PZB AV 5045-Avali.

The Bleu Eskadra Obrabotka Protecta series PZB ([Promezhutochny Zashchita Boyet] Lit. Intermediate Combat Armour) AV ([Auf Vozrast] Version, relating to the year of adoption, roughly.) 5045-Avali is what it says on the tin, so to speak (with some translation at least). Imperial naming schema for military equipment is very, very literal and plain. The idea being that the name is enough to tell anyone exactly what it is, versus flashy marketing names that only serve to add confusion much of the time. The Protecta series of composite hard-suit is a space-rated armour initially produced by the manufacturer Solius via their infantry armour solutions division. However, BEO also manufactures specialized versions under agreement from Solius. Hence the BEO Protecta tend to be more specialized, refined and improved over mass production models, while still retaining the same spirit. all in all the Protecta series is designed for high mobility without sacrificing protection, both from enemy aggressors and environment.

The initial armour is of itself a very high quality, but BEO takes it to a next level by refining and perfecting the crystalline structure of the component layers of the composites. Eliminating any microscopic imperfections for a much stronger product with chemical, heat and other more advanced processes. Ontop of refining the armour, onboard electronics are upgraded and re-tooled for the intended end user. In Antinov's case, this includes a re-kit for attachment points, inclusion of stealth technology (ranging from passive to active systems) and enhancement of the onboard optics to match and exceeds his own eyesight. Alongside modifications that let him use his wings freely, without having to remove any part of his armour or sacrificing protection for them.

A common flaw in armour for bipedal creatures, the hips and buttocks are left somewhat exposed, though for an Avalonian, the device that covers their tail-feathers serves to cover their buttocks without restricting movement in a noticeable way. Flexible and semi-ridged side skits can cover the hips, though Antinov does not use such, as they impede his movement significantly, and part of Anti's defences is being agile enough to keep enemies from getting a clean shot at weak points in his armour. Areas such as the tail-feather covers and wing covers are designed to open up when needed, but close air-tight. This allows the Avalonian user to use their wings without having to remove any part of their armour or sacrificing the ability to enter vacuum.

The wing coverings achieve this by using special elastic meta-materials that have a fantastic amount of stretch, and can pull tight with special electro-responsive contracting fibres built in, getting out of the way. Effectively, when the system is closed, the actual opening that needs to be sealed up is very small. Similar systems are in place for the clam-shell like tail-feather covers, though they need to be much less complex overall due to a more limited range of movement and far fewer joints.

Antinov and Avalonians are both mine.
