Southern Californian Aligator Lizard by AngelGrey

Southern Californian Aligator Lizard

AngelGrey

Taken around 2006 or so. I've been catching these guys since I was a kid. When I was growing up and our cats would catch them I would set up a tank for one, feed it and take care of it long enough for it's tail to start growing back. When lizards lose their tails their bodies put a lot of time and energy into healing it up and building it back.

In around 2000 I did this with a female, had a male in for a short period of time and damned if they didn't get together. I ended up hatching a group of eggs and raising some babies. Easily some of the cutest babies I've ever had.

These guys are extremely snakelike and while they don't have noticeable teeth or anything they clamp on for their lives, safest way to pick them up is behind their head.

I'm right-handed, it was a tidge bit difficult for me to take this picture with my left hand. haha.
