As the goddess Ostara arrived for spring, she found a small bird who lay dying, wings frozen in the snow. She saved the bird's life though he could no longer fly. Feeling pity and compassion, Ostara turned the bird in a snow hare and gave him the name of Lepus. She also gave him the ability to lay eggs in all colors of the rainbow, but he was only able to lay them once a year.
This is where we get the Easter Bunny. Ostara is also called Eostre and is the goddess of the dawn.
