A very cute and warm image, despite all the cool colors (blue, white, purple).
The characte's roudness is pretty much expressed trough the shadows alone, or so it seems, because as I look at the lineart alone, it looks rather flat - but this can be ignored, because of the style itself that the image was drawn with - it's a bit toony, but cute too and has an original look to it, which I personally appreciate a lot!Only thing I'd suggest, is to not fear using/drawing more shadows - it can change the athmosphere and feel of the overall image a lot and especially, give the character more depth, making them appear more round, thus' having a dimension and sticking out of the background more. But this is really more of a matter of style and how you prefer to go with it.
The overall image, is still as I first wrote, very cute and warm~

I was actually very tentative about using a lot of shadows here as I hae no idea how much light, and how harsh the light would be, would be thrown on an object above the clouds. Whenever I've been in a plane and it's been sunny its always seemed glaringly bright... and I wasn't sure if it'd look too unrealistic having lots of shadows. Now I look back at it I can see that I would have needed more here and there :'DI'd light to come back to this piece after a little while and play around more with the lighting and lines (I'm not a fan of them being black).

I'd say, that you can very well darken whichever side you'd like of the character, as the source of ligt isn't clear in the photo (the clouds are pretty much neutral and don't really give away where the light could be coming from). If you are unsure about how much you think you should shade the character in the image, then don't be afraid to ask for help, I'll gladly help you with that by doing some simple excamples.

Hey'ya! I'm finally at my computer and can help a bit better, than by typing on the Tablet PC.
Here's a comparison image, in 3 phases:
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6623/shadowareas.jpg (big picture)I highlighted the areas with added shadows, so you could see how widely and much more you can use the shadows, without having to fear of losing the main tone of the character in the image.
Shadows can also give a lot of form and shape to character, as well as define the area they are in, not to mention, define the shape of the position they are in (for exc. folded wings, arms, etc.)If you have any questions or wish for some more help, don't be afraid to ask~

Hiya :D Yeah, I'm still not used to typing on a touch screen. I tried taking notes on my tablet during a lecture and just got all... fufrood!
Oh wow... Yes I can definitely see how ridiculously tentative I was with my shadows!
It looks so much less flat... Nebu looks fuller! I can't thank you enough for this... really! This is the sort of feedback I feast on! :DI may have to bother you in the future :'D
