2021 Art Summary

Akysi

Well it’s that time of year again, my annual art summary! A lot sparser this year in terms of the number of pieces I was able to produce (for various reasons), but I’m glad to see that the quality did not suffer at least. I got a lot of important design work done this year, and I’ve also done more commissioned work for projects that are not in public view at the moment, so I feel like I took whatever time and energy I had and used it effectively.

That said, I have the desire to do so much more and it’s frustrating that my mind and body cannot deliver on that for reasons that are out of my control. I take whatever rest I can get, but even that is not at the quality it needs to be in order for me to actually recharge, so it feels like running on empty most of the time. This is also evident in the type of work I was able to accomplish as well, mostly within the comfort zone of character design more than anything else, simply because I do not have the mental capacity to learn many new skills right now, like background design or digital painting.

Still, thanks for the support this year everyone! I usually have a backup of nearly-finished WIPs this time of year, so I’m sure you’ll be seeing those as the days spill over into January and February. Like many of us, I do not have the luxury of looking ahead and seeing anything concrete on the horizon that can combat the nebulous dread and uncertainty. I do not have the luxury to confidently put my hopes into the machinations of things that are beyond my influence. All I can do is continue with my work for personal reasons, and hope that is enough for things to get better.
