I finally finished colouring something today, it’s been so slow lately x_x

Anyway, here’s Queen Manticora! Ruler of Eldrigar alongside Queen Demona.

Finishing the colour scheme for this design presented an interesting problem that I did not encounter with Mona, namely the balance between the colours of the animal versus that of Eldrigar itself. A manticore is already an amalgam of several creatures to begin with, so the first challenge was finding a colour scheme that incorporated those in equal measure. Drawing this design presented this problem as well, as establishing hierarchy between a large body frame, wings, a tail, and a large weapon made it harder. I think I got it in the end though.

I wanted to keep more oranges and yellows in the design in order to sell the feeling of a lion, even if those are not as congruent with Eldrigar’s other colours. Both are equally malleable palettes at this point in development, so I will see how I want to approach this balance with other designs in the future. The last thing I want is to make designs that do not read clearly, and I think the animal part of the design should ring clearest throughout, if nothing else. Cora has a helmet in the shape of a lion’s head that I think will complete the idea of a manticore once I’m finished it, but it was good to get this far with the first pass anyway. Hope you like! :)
