Familiar to Kloe. One of the oldest familiars in the land, which granted that is on a scale of "Oldest possible was like 20 years, but no one knew how to make familiars for like 8 years so... 10 years the elder is not that impressive." so you know, temper your expectations.

A quirk of the familiar binding process that Alex is a part of, is that it uses mundane animals who eventually ascend to overt magical intensity...The first couple years though are really brutal on the binding mage. Suddenly gaining swiftly sharpening wit and sapience leads to awkward fixations and neurosis. A new familiar is like dealing with toddler who is tied to your brain but can also shoot magic missiles...AND ALSO JUST CANNOT HANDLE THAT DOOR BEING CLOSED.

Familiars are well into that category of being that you look at people with horror when they suggest "They grow up so fast..." like the childhood phase of this whole ordeal is enjoyable for anyone. Like sure, there are moments, but they are merely moments. Once they mature on the far side of 5 years and begin to have reasonable understanding of the world and a healthy relationship with their mage (we hope.), they become proper lifelong (and longer) companions.

Oh and Alex here can effectively fly and shoot off bolts with enough force to be mistaken for small arms fire. BANG BANG, I GOT A CLEAR SHOT.
