Sitting in the darkened security room Kyrio stared at the monitor screens in growing alarm. All across the ship people were succumbing to toonism. Faces were growing simplified and jolly, fingers and fur were losing definition and clothing was melting or merging or stretching and changing.

The heavy security door buzzed and the dinosaur checked the monitor before releasing the locks to let the captain in. The polar bear shut the door behind him with a clunk and moved over to stand behind Kyrio’s chair.

“How bad is it Kyrio?”

“Bad,” Kyrio gestured at the bank of monitors, “We’ve lost the cargo holds and the only response I get from engineering right now is…”

His claws clicked over a switch and the snug security room filled with a happy buzzing sound. A susurrus of humming bzzzzzzzzzzzt and the occasional voice shouting in alarm. Alarm that slowly but surely transformed into a bzzzzzzzt of content happy workmanship.

“What is going on down there?” Boon asked in alarm as he leant forwards to peer at the foliage covered screens that should have shown main engineering.

“Well,” Kyrio hesitated then moved the controls, “I only have one remaining camera and it looks like a full hive theme has taken over down there.”

The camera panned slowly to the left, revealing that the large engineering decks had been replaced with a honeycomb hive like structure. Bees were bustling back and forth working industrially and in the centre of it all. Approximately where the engineering office should have been was a very large toon bee, wearing snug over-alls and happily directing the worker bees.

“Do we think Star managed to impose this structure? Is that her?”

Kyrio shook his head, his thick crest of black feathers swaying softly.

“I am not sure, maybe,” he frowned, “She has training for what to do if a toon cascade hits. But if she had no warning then I suspect she’ll have been absorbed into it.”
