Kei would often go off alone to practice hunting when the rest of the pride was asleep. It was the only time he was able to act without judgement. One late night, frustrated by his continuous denial, he looked up angrily into the sky. “When will my time come,” he cried, “when will I be able to prove to them that I’m not worthless?!” That night a few miles away, a large fire burned a village to the ground. As if carried by his cries, the winds of the dry season picked up the ashes and swept them over to the territory where Kei’s pride lived.
