Ammit is a demon from the Egyptian religion which would devour the ka whose hearts were heavier than a feather. Though I preserved the Egyptian's coloring, I based all the anatomy off of real ancient Egyptian animals; the Nile crocodile, the Barbary lion, and the H. a. amphibius (no common name, most well-known hippopotamus).
