Sorcery and the priesthood by Rococospade

Sorcery and the priesthood

Rococospade

Does a project for Halloween
Forgets to submit it until November 21
I'm amazing I know.

So this is the first picture I've actually recorded from start to finish (other than a few minutes of stupid detail work here or there where I derped and forgot to turn on the streaming service.) The individual parts are available on livestream but that is a LOT of video to watch, for uh, anyone, so I'll be splicing together and speeding up the clips to post on my channel and youtube. This is my livestream channel livestream.com/rococospade I try to get on whenever I'm painting and I do make announcements for planned streams on devart, as well.

There's a high-resolution copy of this painting available to $2 and up patrons on my patreon. www.patreon.com/Rococospade
Basically if you like my art and want high-resoolution copies, access to sketches, or just want to help support me, please consider donating to my patreon!

About the picture

These are two of the main characters from Pandemonic. One is a priest and the other is a prince of.... sorts.
Kaeko, being a priest of the Rose Mountain temple, is occasionally loosed in an alchemy lab and allowed to make potions. For, uh, worship purposes. He brought the temple's favorite chontal and guest Mai to actually do the work, which would be fine except that he's unfortunately easy to distract from his task.
Presumably this image was followed by a no less than fantastic explosion and the unmitigated ire of the head priest.

The room they're in is smoky from copal, pine resin incense burned in temples that omits a thick, dark gray smoke.

Pandemonic is set in a fantasy world based on a mix of folklore, with its heaviest setting influence being creation myths from the Mexicas, and a dash of Celtic fairies (black gods, water horses) and Norse mythology (elves. Glowing, wild nature spirit elves and dark skinned, earth-dwelling elves. Or dwarves, if you prefer).

My first proper Halloween picture in ages is a pin up. I'd make a sarcastic remark but I'm pretty uniformly proud of the fact.
Pandemonic and Intertia should have their first parts posted soon.

Loving credit to MissMonie, who thought Mai was dropping a bottle into the potion because of his distraction, initially, and was disappointed to discover he wasn't. Her suggestion made me laugh so hard that it was included mid-painting and it vastly improved the whole image.
