NO HE'S NOT GUNNA EAT IT! He's a vegetarian? But no, really, he loves his forest critters, if he ate one it would only be because it was old and sick and ready to die ;o;. Anyway, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. It looks like he's trying to find a fish to pet. Which kind of happens to fit his personality really well! Or maybe he's trying to read the water ripples, either way still fits!
