(Terracks are a closed species for the time being, until I determine whether or not people are even interested)

On a planet in my mind-universe, Terracks (Pronounced TEHR-axe) are creatures that were domesticated in the place of dogs. They evolved for fishing in streams, so they have long claws and wide jaws for catching fish and furry legs and tails to keep them warm in the water. Their bare feet have grippy pads to help them maintain a hold on the slippery rocks of the stream bed.

All Terracks have orange eyes and long, pointed ears to help them hear predators. Although they are adept at catching fish, the long fur becomes heavy when pulled out of the water and as such makes escapes difficult occasionally. They will defend themselves with their claws and teeth.

Primitive people on this planet discovered that fishing would be made much easier by domesticating Terracks and training them to not immediately eat the fish they caught. Other breeds and fur styles were developed, though the most common is still the Standard Terrack.

The three breeds are the standard (4 feet tall), the miniature (3 feet tall and with a shorter tail), and the pygmy (1.5 feet tall and with a longer tail). Common fur styles include wooly (dense, curly fur like that of a poodle), sphynx (furless, with loose skin), Shetland (longer and more fur), and Arabian (shorter and less fur).

All colors here can occur on any breed and any fur style.
These are the most common fur colors, and there are others being bred, but the skin colors shown here are the only variations. Wild Terracks typically had either green or khaki skin and charcoal or beige frosted fur. The other colors have been bred in.

Adult Standard Terracks have the intelligence of a four-year-old. Miniature Terracks have the same intelligence as Standards but they also have the attention span of a two-year-old. Pygmy Terracks are idiots.

There is no way to sex most Terracks simply by looking at them; the fur hides the subtle shape differences between males and females, and all reproductive organs are internal. The exception is sphynx Terracks, which can be distinguished by a practiced eye.
