UPDATE - Illuxcon, Furpocalypse, fiance, computer, commissions, etc by SpartaDog

SO. These past few weeks have been fairly hectic, to say the least. I just want to start by thanking you all for being so patient. I've somehow managed to keep getting a steady flow of follows and comments despite not having posted anything for over two weeks, so I really appreciate it.

Okay, let's see.

ILLUXCON
This was a really incredible experience. For those who don't know, Illuxcon is a fantasy/sci-fi illustration convention. It's by artists, for artists, and attended by (almost exclusively) artists. It's a great way to learn, network, and see absolutely amazing works of art up close and personal. I even ran into a few furries while I was there, like stigmata, dhstein, fishyboner, tidmatiger and Laura Garabedian. I went with kitsunia and keedot and had an amazing time meeting some artists we really look up to like Pete Mohrbacher, Wylie Beckert, and Donato Giancola. It was a really inspiring trip, and we're going to try to get tables in the showcase next year. Fingers crossed!

FURPOCALYPSE
This was an interesting weekend. Obviously I had a really great time with my usual con buddies (far too many to name), and I made a really decent amount of money. There were quite a few hiccups though, like some issues with con security (I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say on that), some very questionable scheduling (doing the dance comp in the middle of the biggest sales period of the weekend? Really????), a little disorganization with the receipt/register system, a literal fist fight that broke out two feet behind me during a movie screening, and a bunch of rude, stuck-up bulldog breeders (I had to try very hard not to tell them their dogs are all deformed and inbred and not even really dogs anymore). But all in all, I still managed to have a ton of fun, and even had some -gasp- FREE TIME???? That's definitely unusual for a con. I can get used to it.

Side note: I have a small handful of take-home commissions. There may or may not be a slight delay in workflow for reasons listed below.

FIANCE
My boo is coming to visit :D Battleferrets will be arriving in the states in about 5 and a half hours and will be staying with me for an entire month! It's kind of a big deal because we've never met in person, he's never met my parents, he'll be here for Thanksgiving AND our two-year anniversary, blah blah gross romantic stuff.

Anywho, this doesn't mean that I'll stop working, or that neither of us will be available this month! We both plan on spending plenty of time sitting our asses down drawing and browsing the web. We just ask for a little patience to allow for date nights and one-on-one time c:

COMPUTER
You've all seen my computer troubles by now, I'm sure. Unfortunately we still could not come up with a solution, so I've decided it's time to throw in the towel. All of the money I made at Furpocalypse will be going toward a new work computer. It's a custom-built desktop from Ironside Computers. Incidentally, this also means I'll be able to finally play some computer games haha.

I'm waiting on the credit payments from Furpoc to come through sometime this week, then I can order the computer, which will take another week or so to be built and shipped. Then I can (hopefully) get back to cranking out art and streaming daily.

COMMISSIONS
Obviously, without a working computer and art program, I cannot offer a lot of commission types. I am currently opening for the following:

  • Digital sketches
  • Traditional sketches
  • Marker or colored pencil pieces
  • Traditional paintings

HOWEVER! If you would like to guarantee a spot with a more finished digital commission, please let me know! I can add you to the waitlist and contact you when I am available to take your commission! No payment will be required until I contact you, so there's no commitment!

So yes! That is the situation. Thank you again for your patience and understanding! Hopefully we can get all of this sorted out fairly soon <3

I had some friends who went to Illuxcon and liked it too. I had never heard of it and even though I'm not a pro illustrator I would still be interested in it so I'm glad to see another good experience there.

Sounds like you have a full month ahead of you, enjoy the heck out of your fiancé! Long distance is tough but not impossible.

Yeah it was fairly small and definitely not something that gets spread around outside the inner circle. Not that it's exclusive or elitist or anything, just doesn't get talked about except with other artists. You should totally try to go next year!
