What type of Photographer am I? by Jeani

Potential clients always ask photographers "What are you specialized in?" so that they know if they are going to use you or if they are going to try to find a different photographer. I really do understand why they ask, but for me it is a bit difficult to answer.

When I first started in photography I did sports because I was my high school's photographer, so all they ever needed me for was sports. Then when I graduated I started doing animals and non-animate object photography. Finally after college started I got into portraits, particularly children.

The only thing that I can say is that I absolutely loved it! I would just let these children run all over the place, and just allow them to take over the studio because then I was able to get the most natural poses/facial expressions. I truly loved it. After a while I started getting, well, bored with it. I missed being able to have a conversation with the client because there is only so much you can say to a 6 month old haha. So I started running specials and started booking weddings, high school seniors, families, and boudoir sessions! I was thrilled! I was finally able to expand my portfolio and show people what I am able to do!

Now my portfolio is even in all areas. Usually when it comes to being specialized in something, you always have about twice as many in that area than you do in others. Now when I look through my work I am stumped because I am even in all of my work.

So what do I tell my potential clients when they ask me the most famous questions? I tell them, "The photography I am specialized in is documenting Life." and so far they have seemed to like it haha

Just like my slogan says "A picture says a thousand words, so let me write your story!" my specialization is the same way when it comes down to it :)

Sorry for the ramble guys! haha :)
