Oh would you look at that PART 2 by Rob Swanson

Oh, okay then. Apparently most, if not all, of the furaffinity forum staff quit when administration asked for copies of everybody's ID and signatures on a non-disclosure agreement. If the postings are to be believed, there was a short period (an hour or so) where there were effectively no moderators working the FA forums. It's insane to hear about this stuff from former admins.

Some of you might be wondering why I care. I mean, it's been said before, so many times, that I have left FA and don't care for the site at all. To be honest, the main reason that I care is because it's a spectacle. That's it, simple morbid curiosity. I mean, I do know the artist Renashe from some of her works. So the names involved aren't unknown to me. But the big draw is just how monolithic the failure is here.

Think about it for a moment, how badly does a conversation have to go for essentially all of a forum's moderators to resign? It should be such a simple conversation too. Someone from administration logs on and contacts the moderators and says, "Because of the recent IMVU buyout, we're required to have information about who are staff are. In addition we have a new non-disclosure agreement that requires signatures." (Bear in mind, I'm just guessing that the NDA is needed because IMVU says so. I could be wrong there.) I cannot even begin to fathom how you go from that point to a position where people walk off the job in mass. I mean seriously, how badly was that converstation bungled for this kind of shit to happen?

Aside from the issue about FA's forum mods leaving, this AMA reinforces, for what feels like the hundredth time, that well meaning individuals keep joining FA's staff and are met with unacceptable working conditions. Earlier I googled ex-FA staff and found something rather interesting. This sort of thing happens at least, AT LEAST, once or twice a year. Last time it was Starrykitten/Ziddonuke. Before that it was people who kept leaving Project Phoenix. Every six months to a year that website just bleeds staff.

Perhaps most importantly, this whole situation really demonstrates something. It demonstrates that the single largest hub in the furry fandom is not doing well. It hasn't been doing well for quite some time. I guess this is why I really care about situations like what Renashe is going through. As a fandom, we have grown in certain ways. One of those ways is that we NEED a strong internet-based social network. When the main one keeps going through episode after episode of such nonsense it kind of spooks me. I mean, if that website ceases to function there will be a lot of people deeply hurt by it. As much crap as I give FA for its nonsense, I really do want that site to turn things around and be successful. People make their livelihoods relying on that website.

TL,DR:
There has been an update in the most recent bout of drama over at FA. Apparently the vast majority, if not all of the FA forum moderating staff decided they were done. The drama kind of freaks me out. I want the website to get its act together because people depend on it.

PS:
I know I'm probably beating a dead horse with this journal.
