[Politics] About that Iran Deal by BlickFen

You know, between this latest spate of ridiculous nonsense being excreted by the GOP over the Iran deal and the letter that GOP representatives sent there several months ago, I continue to be both furious and flabbergasted that none of these people are brought up on charges of treason. Before I explain, however, let me say that in the vast majority of cases, I think "treason" is the most nebulous bullshit charge anyone could come up with, particularly since it is so often applied to civilians. That said--

For those of you who don't remember, that letter I mentioned was written to Iran by no less than forty seven US Senators, all members of the GOP. The gist of this letter was "Don't make a nuclear deal with Obama because we don't like him and he'll be gone soon, and once he's gone we won't honor any deals he makes." Now, on the eve of an actual deal with Iran, we have conservatives - particularly Huckabee, the transphobic and self-proclaimed would-be sexual predator "if only he could have told his gym teachers he could have identified as female to watch other female students in the showers in high school" Huckabee - clamoring to sabotage this deal.

This is treason. This is ACTUAL TREASON. These people are members of our government and they are actively trying to undermine our foreign policy and diplomacy. There is a law, the Logan Law, which prohibits unauthorized negotiation with foreign governments, and you can bet that the GOP Senators were not authorized to write that imbecilic letter. They did it anyway. They sent the message that our president does not have the power to negotiate with foreign nations because the lawmakers back home wouldn't support his decisions as commander-in-chief, or at least would not lawfully protest them.

Now, with public voices decrying the deal with Iran, we once again send a message to the global community that the promises we make and the deals we broker aren't worth shit, because our home team refuses to support the team captain.

At the barest, piddling minimum, these people should be ejected from their elected positions and barred from running for public office ever again.

Instead, they continue their bullshit with impunity, secure in the knowledge that they will never be punished or prosecuted for their abhorrent behavior. Can you imagine what kind of response there would be if President Obama actually went after these people? I do not feel I am exaggerating when I say it would push us into some measure of civil war.

So nothing's going to happen, and these people will continue to make a mockery of the laws and values of the nation they claim to faithfully represent.

Stay classy, GOP.

This is the entire problem with our country. Like, whatever your issue with a guy, are you really doing this? Not only is what you're doing blatantly illegal, you realize you're optimizing chances for nuclear war on any number of countries including your own.

Now if any of us were to do something like those stupid fucks, we'd have gotten the death penalty, but because they're in the positions they are, they'll get away with it. Bullshit.
