Video game concept: "Ex Astris Scienta" by Myuphrid

Once more, I've come up with a harebrained idea for a video game. I guess my imagination is a fertile ground for them.

Anyhoo, Ex Astris Scienta is one of those idle-style games, where you set resources gathering/processing and leave it running while you do other things, interceding occasionally to apply upgrades and such - if you've played Cookie Clicker or AdVenture Capitalist, you'll know what I'm talking about - with simple crew management mechanics something like town-building sim Banished.
The basic concept sees you running a USS Enterprise-style interstellar exploration ship as it boldly goes where no-one has before. The primary goal is to explore of course, which is represented via exploration points. Gathering more of these allows you to unlock more rewarding/challenging exploration areas, upgrades from headquarters like new ships, and perhaps other such things.
To properly go about upping your exploration total, your ship has various departments such as science, engineering, and so forth. Science helps you research new upgrades for your ship, while engineering helps you apply said upgrades to your craft and build whatever's needed. Along the way, you also gather supplies such as building material for upgrades and lightspeed fuel to propel your ship to new stomping grounds.
In order to utilise all these resources, you must construct rooms to store and exploit them - cargo bays to store supplies, refineries to turn ore into building material, science labs to assign to various tasks, etc. etc.. Your ship would come with a certain degree of empty rooms that could be prepared as needed for various jobs, or dismantled to free up space for other functions.
In addition to the steady gathering of exploration points, you could also deploy crew on expeditions to points of interest found by your Astrometrics department, in the hopes that they could win you significant bonuses - they might bring back a lot of science from a planet, or alien artifacts, or who knows what else?
Other things that might be implemented could be a combat mechanic, involving a security division warding off occasional pirate attacks or alien infestations, and maybe a health mechanic for the ship/parts of it that the engineers would see to when not building things.

And there's Ex Astris Scienta. What say you?
