Tablets? by Cowboypunk

I've been wanting a tablet for the sake of writing and doodling outside of my house (waaay more convenient than carrying 2-3 books and supplies around with me, and I can connect to my working docs online instead of rewriting all my notes bleh) and am sifting through the myriad of tablets available, augh. I'm currently thinking Asus' Vivotab (which is a brand I trust, is less expensive than many others, and comes with a good wacom stylus for the doodles), but figured I'd ask any of you what kinds of tablets you have and what you prefer or any noteworthy experiences you've had with them.
So what have you got and what are your opinions, or do you have any recommendations?

I've been using the Surface Pro tablets, which are pretty awesome, but might be more than you're looking to spend. I'm not sure what the Surface Pro 1 is going for right now. At any rate, they run like a charm and almost make it as a total replacement for a laptop.

I guess I'm not looking for anything super special? Like, I'm definitely not planning to use this for super polished professional work or anything, I mostly just need a more convenient working tool for when I'm out doing basic brainstorming/worldbuilding/sketching stuff. Surface and Surface Pro looks really good though and I've had a lot of people recommend it so far, though, and it's making reeeeally tempted to just break down and get a really nice one and use it for more. Thanks for the input!

I'll also throw out there again that it might be overkill. If you're happy with your current laptop and digital art set-up, it might not be worth the extra cash. On the other hand, if the laptop is starting to get a bit old, it might not be a bad option as something you can regularly use in place of the laptop unless you really need the larger screen.

Also, careful about the Surface vs the Surface Pro. My understanding is the regular Surface isn't going to work very well for art (if at all).

My laptops is good right now, but it's also just nice to be prepared - it's a few years old and running fine, but you never know what'll happen and it's nice to have a backup option in case something just up and dies on you, or something falls.

Ahh, thanks for the warning! Hoping to find some to test and mess around with before I grab anything so I can at least get a feel for them.

I recommend the Surface 3. The new model starts at 500, but you'll end up spending about 600 for the key cover and pen. For just doodling I use Wacom Intuos P&T small.

Thanks for sharing! Surface has pretty unanimously been boasted by everyone, it's looking really good.
