LORE

In the dawn of man, when humans were new and magic was deeply rooted in the earth, a great tree grew in the first village of man. The humans worshiped it as an old god and therefor gave it power and soaked it in magic until it grew many centuries old and died.

The magic took hold in the wood and from the fallen tree a creature was born. The humans gave the creature many gifts, including a satchel full of gems. The tiny gems numbered the stars and the creature treasured them. But as the creature got older, centuries past and one by one the humans passed away. As they did their stories were told from mother to child and eventually truth came to be legend and legend to myth. The creature grew lonely, but he treasured his gems, each reminding him of a human that he had cherished in his youth.

One day, upon inspecting the stones, he became lonely and a single tear dropped to the stones. Suddenly the stone cracked and a small sprout emerged. The creature was confused, then he removed the sprout, it’s new root still encased in a lovely shinning stone. He knew that he must plant the sprout and let it grow. And so he did, naming himself The Sower. Through the forest he spread the stones far and wide, caring for each in his long treks. Once the seeds were old enough to care for themselves, The Sower disappeared into the mountains.

Trees grew from the sprouts and lived their lives in the shelter of the mountain forest. As they died, they too came forth as a new creature. This brought The Sower down from his home, to gather his Children around him and speak of the old ways. He is the teacher, the father, and the lore keeper. They lived for a time in peace, until a band of humans found them in the woods and tried to kill them for the gems in their heads. The creatures retreated farther into the forest, choosing to sleep in the day and roam at night. Since their bodies are covered in fur and their torsos bound to the fallen tree that begot them, they easily hide from humans. Sometimes other creatures made homes in their hollow log bodies and tend to travel with the creature.

    FAQS

How long do they live?

Basically they live forever. They aren't technically alive once their tree dies, they are just creature made of the remnants and magic. They do show age tho, in the way that a newly dead tree will look very young.

-Youth = Wider eyes, small ears, and unhorned nubs.
-Adult = Medium length ears, start to get spikes from their nubs, eyes start to narrow.
-Middle aged = Long ears, long spikes, eyes remain narrowed.
-Old = Very long ears, curled spikes, sometimes eyes get lighter, as if they are blind tho their sight can remain unchanged.

Do they have a gender?

Not really. Some species of plants can be defined and male or female but the Branx themselves don't have sexual organs and therefor do not have a strict idea or need of gender. Some will choose a gender however, for whatever reason.

What grows on them?

Anything can grow on them, but generally speaking the things that grow on them have something to do with the tree then came from. They can have leaves, flowers, and moss on them.FAQS
