Doing requests, just so ya know. by Moved Accounts...

Well, I've been lurking on this site for some time now, and just started posting stuff. In terms of my art, I'm currently working though the phase where I'd like to really improve my work in preparation for numerous long-term projects in the near future, and as such, I'm interested in making a little offer for whoever happens to read this:

I'll draw whatever you want me to. Simple sketches, developed work, character sheets, whatever. Point is, I want to create some stuff for other people and get feedback on it, so that I can improve my personal work.

All I'll ask in return for these requests would be an honest, helpful critique of the work I produce for you. Other than that, they'll be totally free. Although, if it would interest anyone else, I'd be happy to do a request in return for a request of my own; that is to say, a trade. I'd enjoy that a lot.

Here's my guidelines, or whatever:

-I'll try to do anything. Nothing will really be out of the question, barring obvious things like hate art and the like. Anything warranting an Explicit rating on the site will be done, but will be kept low-priority and will not be posted on my profile.

-Aside from that, I will likely post all requests on my profile, giving credit to the requester. The requester will also be allowed to post on their profile, provided they give proper credit and a link to my profile in the description. (Edit: Requesters will now be sent an offer to accept my original upload into their collection, and will be encouraged to do that instead of uploading the work themselves.)

-Simpler, lower-commitment requests will be placed at higher priority than more complex ones, e.g. a simple line sketch of a single character will be prioritized over anything full-color or including multiple characters.

-I can work in pen-and-ink, graphite, digital media, and colored pencil, in descending order of preference. I'll work on posting more examples of each to give some ideas.

-Progress images will be shown on request, however, requesting a do-over on a WIP will greatly lower your request's priority!

-Remember, this is as much meant to develop my skills as it is to be a fun, nice little thing to do! Please offer me an honest, helpful critique of my work when I finish it.

If you'd be interested in requesting from me, feel free to send a message. Not sure if this is supposed to go in the forums, but whatever. Send me your requests, I'm open for business!

This is very generous of you. :o
If you'd want to, you could draw my character Silvanus: https://www.weasyl.com/character/40459/silvanus & https://www.weasyl.com/submission/940240/silvanus-ref-wip
Or any of my other characters if you like them better: https://www.weasyl.com/characters/pixelhoot
I don't have a preference of medium; do whatever you feel like! The only thing I will specify is keeping it SFW.
Thanks so much for offering, and if you do decide to draw something for me I'll try my best to critique it. :>

Will get right on it! I love drawing birds, don't feel like I do it enough. I'll probably do ink, if that sounds good to you. And, since this is my first request, I'll try to make it the first one done.

Birds are great~ That's fine, have fun with it. And thanks so much! Take your time.

          Done! https://www.weasyl.com/submission/989017/silvanus-request-for-pixelhoot

Must I say, this was a delight to do. I decided to go with colored pencils after a bit of ink, since I've been wanting to get a hang of using them. And, as I've said, I just enjoy drawing birds.

As for your critique, I'd appreciate if you could either send me a PM or just comment straight on the post. You're also free to upload it to your own profile as long as you credit me in the description.

          Hope you like it!

After a bit of thought, and a lack of other people offering up suggestions, I've decided to toss a few ideas at you, mayhaps! And I'll second PixelHoot on this being very nice of you to offer.

Ample creative freedom, to run with an idea for as long or as short as you'd enjoy; a sketch or a fully colored scene, where ever your muse takes you. I present the idea of a Layleauxian Koba or two: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/smqhqbfuewmbwq5/AADVP0FzmXBG9Qb31offQ9bua?dl=0 (Warning, bit of nsfw refs in there)

Creatures of a tribal nature; primitive, swamp dwellers, and in general peaceful, if not exactly graceful thanks to their tails. Omnivores that have a highly vegetarian diet with only the rare bit of meat (Fish or insect most commonly), they don't go out of their way to hunt for food favoring instead to live off very primitive methods of farming and otherwise gathering from the land. Though they may be Warm blooded, they're not very well suited to colder climates as a good bit of their natural temperature regulation is taken directly from the current climate.

Not exactly a highly developed culture but one filled with a respect for nature, generally peaceful; communal living, low technology, a touch of mysticism and at most simple magic. Identification and the story of an individual is often presented in body paints and markings, some simple, some complex, others worn only during ritualistic events. Clothing is simple, made of leaves or leather, the occasional bit of cloth from a passing trader, though they tend to have little to offer in the way of trade goods: The occasional bit of wood work, hides and bones from the uncommon swamp dwelling predator that had threatened the tribe.

Outside of their homelands, they're prized as manual and unskilled labor and occasionally as guards or warriors because of their physical strength, endurance, and protective nature. Once you've gained one's trust, protection is readily and willingly given: After all, a trusted friend is a member of one's tribe.

When it comes to gender dimorphisim, in general the females are a touch larger then the males (A whole two inches and 30-40 lbs on average), though the males tend be a bit stronger but again, not by much. Both have the typical crest and frill along the back of their head leading down to their neck as part of their natural temperature regulation, as well as the lengthy tongue of their species. The females also have breasts, despite being an egg laying species (Both aspects divergent from their homelands thanks to some impurity and hybridization in the blood line some ages ago, when they were taken as slave stock). Culturally, there tends to not be much difference between the genders when it comes to filling a role the tribe needs.

Now, where would your mind take you when presented with such information? A lone tribal guardian, standing watch outside the huts, or even in a more modern setting as a bouncer? One swimming or traveling through the everglades of their homelands or along some forested path? Tame romance between a pair of the dinosaur like creatures? Some adventurer, far from their tribe, out seeking new experiences with members of some other race that had passed through the swamplands at some time? A tribe gathered around a shaman, telling a story of some sort, or several tending to a plot of marsh-land farming? Or even just a tame pin up of some member of the species, applying their daily paints?

I can only hope that the idea is something that would interest you; I like the species, and don't have a specific character in mind. I just like seeing where people's minds go with them. I -am- slightly biased towards females and tame, tasteful erotica, but that's personal tastes: "Nudity is fine art. Erect nudity is porn."

I'm curious to see how you would handle the texture of their hide, and the detail of body paints, as well as their natural markings. True, they tend to be generally drab browns in color and stick with whiter pigments for their body paints, that doesn't mean some color doesn't make it into the paints now and then.

When it comes to critique, what sort do you look for? How harsh do you want it to be? From what I've seen of most of your work, you've got a strong grasp of anatomy, and you do textures wonderfully with your graphite work. I don't see much in the way of backgrounds or settings, however. Is that an area you feel you need to focus on? I also -adore- your ink and copic one of Brynn; that was actually the image that most caught my eye when you had posted it up.

And again, thank you for offering these up! I can only hope I've given you and your muse something worth working on!

Looks good to me! Certainly a lot of information to work from, which is nice. :P

I'll sketch around a bit until I settle on a good concept. Since you mentioned it, I'd like to pay special attention to a background of sorts. It should be fun!

As for the critique, it'll basically follow the same basic guidelines as the art: anything you like - I'll work with it. Whether it's harsh, mellow, all-encompassing or cursory, I just want feedback.

Currently finishing up the first request, so I'll get to yours as soon as I'm done with that. Long weekend for me, so it shouldn't be much trouble.

      Thanks for your request!

Finished the first request, so I just wanted to let you know yours is now highest priority. Thanks for your patience!

Please, take your time! And thank you again for even considering it! I appreciate it!

Sorry... I took WAY too long to finish this.

Well, anyway, here's the sketch I came up with: https://www.weasyl.com/submission/1017674

Looking at the references, I noticed that few of them placed Koba in any kind of environment. As you stated that they are swamp dwellers by nature, I decided to create a scene with a notable emphasis on the swampy landscape surrounding the characters. The concept of a mother and her young child cautiously traveling through the environment came out of the blue, but I liked it enough to go with it.

Unfortunately, the paper I chose for the sketch was not very accommodating to dark pencil marks and shades, and I found myself unable to make the image look as dark and earthy as I was hoping for (doesn't help that scanning it made it look even brighter). I do want to do a full-colored digital painting from the sketch at some point, and will try to get around to doing that as soon as I finish the last request and find ample time to do so.

Landscapes are not my strong suit, and as such, this piece has been a bit of a challenge. If you can give me some good feedback on the background, I would greatly appreciate it. As stated in the journal, I will also send you an offer to accept the piece into your collection. If you would rather upload the piece to your gallery, I simply ask for proper credit and a link to my profile/original post in the description.

          Thanks for your patience! :/

A belated thank you! I wanted to do the full critique first, but my brain is moving too slowly; It WILL be done within this weekend though!

I really, really do like how it came out! <3

Howdy. So... I noticed you liked my opossum Oscar. If you would like to do something with him, I'd be honored. I have no specific requests in mind, so basically anything that would be in keeping with his character as described.
    https://www.weasyl.com/character/50054/oscar-trash-sir-detritus-malodorous-vi

Also I got like zero formal training in art-type stuff but I'll do my best to crit wisely, should you choose to take me up on this. :)

I'll roll with it. Thanks for your request! Yours should be either the 3rd or 4th done, depending on how much trouble the next queued request causes me.
