To every thing there is, there is always a first – an original – the grand template – the master copy, and you’d be surprised to learn how seriously these particular objects are guarded and protected. For example, the platinum metre bar – the first and original metre – still kept all cosy and protected .. sure its platinum – but it’s shiny never the less.

The question is what would be the shiniest shiny to have? Many debates – coonversations have been had but ultimately? I decided that the humble spoon is probably the best shiny out there. Why? Technically you have 3 types of shiny on one useful object. Flat shiny – like a mirror on the handle, concave shiny on the inside of the scoop, and convex shiny on the reverse side!
And now back to the master templates. Yes there are many designs of spoons, but the basic shape – the optimised – ‘perfect’ shape was in fact created. 1.2m of glorious shiny awesomeness. It was made in Napoleonic France – at a time when Aluminium was the most precious metal on the planet – and so that’s what it was made of.

It’s early life was as a shiny piece of functional art at the palace of Versailles and when the Bank of France was founded in 1800 it was moved into its vaults along side France’s national gold reserve – only ever brought out to help companies to get the correct shaped spoons.

WELL … I decided like any raccoon would – that I needed – and wanted this spoon more than France .. or the Spoon making companies.. or anyone else. There’s lots of spoons around! I’m sure they will cope! So I had to rescue it. What good is a shiny when its locked away anyway?

So, I went to France and come back with the spoon! Maaaaaybe.. just maybe one day ill put up the story of exactly how.. BUT FOR NOW – I have the Master Spoon!! The shiniest of shiny shinies! ;)
