Welcome New Followers! by lennymutt
Hey all you new people following my account here! I plan on getting my stuff up to date here in the next week so look for an influx of new artwork. I've been super busy with art commissions and getting over the flu and just in general I've been bad at up-keeping this account.
I'm not completely leaving FA yet, I'm waiting to see what happens in the coming weeks. I'm not going to bad mouth the FA situation but I'm fairly worried about things to come over there.
That being said, I am going to be more visible here and on my art tumblr. I'll probably start offering commissions though this site as well (although I know this site has been known to be quiet on the front of getting commission interest for other artists, I hope this changes!)

I'm hesitant to completely leave FA since a lot of my commissions work comes from there. At the same time with FA's trend of horrible decisions, especially lately, I'm more worried than ever. I probably will post journals here when I'm interested in taking on more commissions, I'll be sure to tweet about it too.
I DO have a Facebook page for my art and I had posted about commissions there but I haven't in a long time. I mostly just post updates about stuff going on with my art and more polished art pieces...that kind of thing.

I don't think it's necessary to leave FA yet, and may never be. It really depends on what the people using the site decide to do. Drama aside, it's really hard for me to believe that there will be a mass exodus. All the other ones have been short-lived, and why would this be any different? Furs don't have long memories.
Give it a week or two and most will forget what the issue was anyway.
If I were in your position I'd stay on FA until the majority of my customer base was elsewhere.
Have you thought about brushing off your Twitter account? I've seen a few artists advertising commissions that way, lately. I'm not sure what kind of success you've had with that. And you still have Pawzer Studios too, which helps keep you and your work mostly independent of a third party's behavior, so i think you're in a good position.

Yeah I will be trying to keep my twitter more up to date now which I wasn't really doing lately, although I didn't really have more to say on there anyway. I've been so busy with the commissions I already had and didn't have any openings to announce there. I do still have my personal site, you're right. :)

That's kind of what I'm doing as well. Using Weasyl as an "insurance policy" if things fall apart at FA, otherwise FA is the one place I still use daily.
What's your username on Tumblr... I signed up for one, but have yet to do much with it. :p

Yeah I'm still going to FA daily but not sure what will happen in the future. I have a personal tumblr for just random stuff and things about my transgender stuff if you don't mind seeing it at fillintheblake.tumblr.com and my artwork one is at blakeillustrate.tumblr.com :D

I think that's the best thing to do; wait and see. There is good reason for people to leave--these aren't exactly the most trustworthy people out there, and I can't blame people for wanting to escape a site that is now owned by a company that is not furry, and really doesn't care about us beyond what money they can make from us or the site.
It isn't like everything we've posted is going to become their property to sell.
Honestly I think the worst that happens is the site shuts down in a year or so, or starts going the "freemium" route--which I'd be okay with if it were any site but FA.
I think it would be good to offer commissions through here. Or, here's another idea: I've seen some use Twitter or other social media. Maybe you can use a little of everything? (But please not Facebook! Facebook is evil. :( ) You could announce commission openings here, there, everywhere, but keep track of it in a domain you control, or Trello, or something.
It isn't good to be too reliant on one site, even if that site is where you get all your business, if it is not a site you own. You need a backup plan.
