I'm sure most of you have heard about what happened already.
For those who haven't, a 17-year-old trans girl named Leelah Alcorn committed suicide after being isolated from her friends, pulled from public schools, misgendered, refused appropriate treatment/therapy, forced into conversion "therapy," etc at the hands of transphobic parents.
After her death, a suicide note she had queued to post to her tumblr appeared, detailing how her parents had abused her and why she felt suicide was her only option. She went on to request that her death "mean something," asking readers to "fix society."

She was born in '97. 17 is so young. My heart aches.
