Dylan Carver - Background by TiredTrickster

First is basic information about his race

Dylan is a sub-species known as a Chromatic. Unique to his world, Chromatics are the results of hundreds to thousands of years of mutation from pollution. Their colorful appearance is caused by their body no longer conforming to camouflage. The mutation also has several physical and mental problems which affects each individual differently. Side affects can range from low immune system to being born with physical deformities making the victim nearly unrecognizable as a human or other species it is supposed to be. Chromatics born with severe deformities rarely live past the first day of their life or are put down immediately to prevent suffering.

Chromaticism can not be contracted unless you are born from Chromatic parents and Chromatics cannot reproduce with unaffected humans nor aquatics, resulting in no way to kill off the ‘disease’ without eradication the entire chromatic race.

Dylan is lucky in the sense that his Chromaticism is on the minor side where it only affected his appearance with no deformities.

Secondly we have his childhood

Dylan was the second child born of 3. Born to a middle class family living in the city of New Highlands, the biggest city on the planet spanning a total of 460,477 sq. miles. Dylan’s childhood was rather ideal minus the racial discrimination he had to deal with in school. his older brother, Ray was always by his side to keep him happy and feel safe whenever his parents weren't around.

Ray was a very popular High-Speed motor bike racer. His career bringing in the most money for his family and over all giving them a good name. When Dylan was 12 years old, His mother allowed him to finally see his brother race in person instead of watching on TV. The first two races went smoothly, Ray making third place in the first then first place on the second. The third race Dylan saw was the semi finals, which is also the last race he ever watched in person till he was nearly 18 years old.

Near the end of the semifinals, Ray was in first place. Everyone was convinced he was going to win. That is until one of the human racers cheated. During one of the turns on the track the other racer managed to catch up to Ray and placed a racing-mine (used in some races to damage other racer’s tires) on the back of his bike. When the mine went off, although it was not strong enough to badly damage the bike or Ray, the force made him lose balance and the bike tipped, sending Ray flying off his bike and onto the track, leaving him at the mercy of 11 other racers driving nearly 400 mph. The track paramedics couldn't reach him in time before he was run over by several other races. None of which tried to avoid him despite all racer receiving radio messages alerting them of a down biker.

Ray did not survive the injuries and died on the track. his younger brother Dylan watching in pure horror.

For weeks after the ‘accident’ News stations were all over the event. Arguing about whether or not it was a mistake or if there was ill intent behind the actions. The racing corporation labeled it an accident although it was clear that it was not. Dylan never forgave the other racers and knew very well what motivated their actions. He knows that it was no coincidence that all the racers involved were Human.

Over the next few years. Money became tighter and living where they had became too expensive. the family had to move to a small apartment. When Dylan turned 15, he dropped out of school to find a job in an attempt to help his family. at 17, he was offered a job by the government who agreed to pay their family enough to get by as long as Dylan did what they said. He agreed.

More background info around the cause of his mental state

When Dylan was little he was bullied through out his childhood. Discrimination was common towards Chromatics and where he lived, they were easily picked out of the crowd. Dylan became depressed at a young age, constantly turning towards his older brother for help.

After his brother’s death at age 12, His mental health declined rapidly. He became very quiet and reserved. Talking to no one. Not even his own family. The bullying in school continued.

at 16 he finally snapped. Even though he was no longer in school. The bullies pestered him outside of school. taking advantage of him because he wouldn't fight back. Until one day.

He was used to the cycle. he would be heading to work when the students would be heading home. they’d countered him on the way and harass him. But this time he didn't let them get away with it. Before he left for work. He snatched a pocket knife from his brother’s belongings in the closet and kept it hidden in his sleeve as he headed towards work, waiting for his bullies to take notice of him. They did of course. Dylan made a run for it like he normally did. instead of heading back towards him like normal, he headed down an alley way, stopping at the dead end. When the two approached him. He pulled the blade from his sleeve and stabbed it right into the taller one’s shoulder. He pulled it out and continued stabbing him until the other tried to pull him off, which then he turned to him and slashed his throat. He left, letting the two bleed out.

He was caught and arrested several days later. but because of his age they didn't send him to jail. Instead they sent him to a mental hospital for rehabilitation.

He was released 6 months later when he was 17 after the government offered him the job.

at 22 he was sent back to the hospital for a diagnosis to be put in his file. He was diagnosed with Dissociative personality disorder and manic depression.

He remains unmedicated.

Everything after this point is to be learned in the comic which is in development
