To a New Year, Part 1: Looking back on 2014 by Python Blue

2014 was a pretty eventful year in many ways for me.

January:
After a few years of lack of assistance with marketing, I got invited to the Future 80s netlabel. Overall, I feel this label, while not a huge one outside the synthwave scene, has helped a lot with promotion.

February:
Had my first interview as a musician on Radio Pure Gently. Was pretty nerve-racking, but it was worth it.

March:
My EP "An Alien World", my first exclusive release with Future 80s, came out. This is without a doubt the best-selling of my synthwave work to date, save a few compilations of multiple artists.

April:
In regards to fandoms, I finally grew the guts to abandon one that was stressing me out for years. In lighter news, this was also the month that Amnesia: A Coward's Debt came out. This was a custom story made by the creators of Amnesia: The Great Work, another mod I scored the bulk of.

May:
After four years of struggles, I FINALLY received an associate's degree at my local university. Sadly, it was a mere Liberal Arts degree, but that was the only associate's program offered, so... :-p

June:
Met up with TechnoPlatypus. Thankfully, it wasn't too much of a hassle for either of us: it turns out he lives in the same state as many of my relatives. Was definitely fun getting to know him off the computer screen. :-)

July:
Third meeting with another friend, during which I finally saw my sister's place in Delaware.

August:
NeonXSZ, the first serious-level game project I ever had, came out on the 22nd. Didn't sell as well as I or the developer (yes, it was a two-man project!) expected, but then, not everyone is into neon lights or risk of getting dizzy. XD This was also the month that Naysu released her first episode of Twitch Plays Pokemon Animated, which I also arranged the music for.

September:
Things shifted to academics. My computer class inspired me to take programming more seriously, while my drawing class stressed the heck out of me.

October:
Technologically, things were a bit stressful. My computer's monitor was making a buzzing noise leading to a mult-week ordeal of trying to get it fixed by the Apple Store. Thankfully, it was fixed, and in other lighter news, I attended my cousin's wedding.

November:
The month started off well with the SynthScape meetup in which I saw several other synthwave producers and icons in person in Brooklyn! Later, however, my maternal grandmother, the last grandparent I had left, passed away.

December:
Ignoring the stresses at work and academics leading me to quit both, I submitted songs for a whopping two compilations that came out this month: Batman of the Synth, and Synths of Rage. The end of this month also marked the release of "A Dark Future".

It wasn't as productive as I had hoped when it comes to actually making music and/or programming, but it was still pretty eventful, and in some ways, it was a good thing, especially where the marketing of my name is concerned.
