Opinions About the Site So Far by skruluce

So, after a few days of browsing the site and getting a feel for it, I have to say overall I think it's extremely well-designed, but there are a couple of glaring problems with everyday use that really put a damper on my excitement for everything else. Note: I know, I'm far from the first or only one to voice these complaints, but this is a beta site, and feedback is expected, and should be encouraged.

Note: I browse Weasyl using Google Chrome. I haven't tested it with any other browsers as of yet, so excuse me if some of the functionality issues below work properly in other browser platforms.

1) The "View and manage Submissions" button. There is no point to separating the option of removing messages from the initial viewing page, first of all. We need fewer clicks, not more. Second, in addition to the checkbox for each item, the Remove Selected, and Invert Selection button, there should be a Check All button. I realize Invert Selection, when nothing is checked, will check everything, but it's not as obvious to everyone. Also, Remove Selected should the the last button in the order, because it's submits the form and refreshes the page. Sort of basic webpage hierarchy, there.

2) The Commission Prices form is absolutely horrible. On the surface, it looks somewhat manageable, but once you input a price, there's no way to access the information you've just written in order to edit what's already there. When using the Edit Price area, selecting an existing price doesn't bring up the information you've already entered at all; you may as well delete the price entirely and start over.

Also, the prices and classifications are only arranged in alphabetical order, which doesn't make any sense when referring to a price chart--I've put in numbers before each item just to keep it in the proper order, because otherwise, my chart would be:

Additional Characters>Busts>Full Body>Full Body W/Background

Even though only the first one is out of order, it becomes a bigger problem for artists with more options. The order should be determined by the artist's preference, not alphabetical. I've had to rewrite each item in order to get it to display how I'd like.

A final note on commission prices: A description field for each Classification would be wonderful, so artists can expand on specifically what they mean for that particular category, rather than explaining every item in Additional Information.

3) The Submit and Compose buttons at the top are redundant and confusing. Compose, if anything, should be under submit, specifically as an option under a Literary submission, so you can choose whether you want to import a document or write it out in the Compose box. Also, the text options within the Compose box should also be available in the journal box, not only for consistency, but for more easily formattable journal entries as well.

I'll probably add more to this later, since I've not yet submitted anything and haven't experienced that aspect of the site, and I may be forgetting something else I was going to discuss. In any case, these are my issues with the site thus far.

Thanks for reading,

Agh--I guess that's what they are. Thank you for catching that.
