This is why I left tumblr by insanejoker

EDIT: I previously thought the OP was 14, but I had misread something in the image. I do not know that person's age.

dis shit right here: http://postimg.org/image/987n5oav9/

People, especially kids, say stupid shit ALL THE TIME. educate them on why it's bad. if they don't get it, move on. they're kids, teenagers. They will learn with time.

But no words call for sharing private info and harassing someone, threatening them, and more. It is just WRONG. It is NOT social justice - it is bullying and it is HARASSMENT. It's not justice in any way shape or form.

This dogpiling has got to stop, tumblr.

This is why I left tumblr

I can't see the photo, something wrong with my browsers, but what happened?

    • Link

a 14y/o girl said something stupid about ferguson, posted a limerick / rhyme someone else made, and tumblr users found her phone #, home address and began sending threats to both of them in the name of justice.

      • Link

Jesus... I personally disagree with these Ferguson riots. I think it's stupid to destroy business and private property when they had nothing to do with it.
They were recently in Dallas and blocked the highway, which again, had no real point, and wasn't going to get them anywhere. I was glad when they got arrested and the others were kicked out.
Trying to get to work through stupid shit like that is a nightmare.
But yeah, that's messed up. You don't just threaten people for posting stupid shit.

        • Link

Yea, the amount of riots was actually small - a lot of people shared the many peaceful ones. It's just the media reported the bad ones. Tensions get high and people lash out - it's a difficult situation to handle. :( Though I do not agree with the individuals who took advantage of the situation for their own personal gain (looters).

          • Link

Yeah. I've been watching newscasts for the peaceful ones too and those are okay. Although on the lotting part I agree. It's really been pissing me off, how they looted their own town.
I live in a small town with a ton of racist blacks. It's really bad. I personally think the cop was innocent and that the court wasn't racist at all. I think the Ferguson blacks were just mad because they once again weren't getting away with breaking the law, and this time one of their own paid the price. So what do they do? In order to start a movement, they claim racism like they've done for many years and try to get their revenge on the government.
Which isn't working, because they're going after society instead. 0_0' Our own society.
But I mean, if I'm first in the lunch line where I live many of the black girls who see me get pissed and throw racial slurs. If I get knocked in the hallway and bump into one of them I get the b word dropped on me and just... Ugh. I have some good black friends but the group of the good are small compared to the bad.

            • Link

I think a lot of it varies by location / poverty levels. A lot of minorities are in poverty stricken areas where education isn't great, or as easily available, which is why it looks like a lot of X types of people act a certain way. It may be 'their' town, but that doesn't mean they have to respect it or the people in it. IMO at least.

I know that a lot of kids that act like you describe do it because what else do they have around them? From that view, probably think the world's given up on them anyway. The black people in Ferguson weren't alone - definitely other races with them. When it comes down to it though, its not really their skin color that makes them who they are - it's more about the class. There was actually a similar incident that happened to a white guy, and his family fought the cops, and got the law changed to force them to wear copcams. So, I think the kid most likely did something stupid with the cop, but I don't think he deserved to be shot multiple times like that. Just my opinion XD

So, while I understand being around hateful people who may be of the same race / etc. can make you see things like you're describing, always try to remember these are still people, too, and you never know what they go through. People like that exist of all races, and I've been around enough white people who act like that, too. Could be these people have lives just as bad as yours or someone you know, or maybe their parents expect them to act a certain way and aren't allowed to have differing views for fear of anger or abuse. I've met many people who had parents like that - it's really really sad. :(

              • Link

Yeah, and I mean I know they're still people and that they live in poverty and all that. It just... I wish parents would learn how to parent BETTER so that way I don't have to go to school with lots of kids who don't care that others are trying to learn and stay out of trouble...

                • Link

Same. Parents who are in poverty tend to parent less (not all obviously, but a lot). I think it has to do with stress and just not finding the strength to handle your kids problems on top of your own. Schools don't always help with that, either. I wish there were better programs to help parents manage stress without forgetting their kids or taking it out on them. :(

                  • Link

                    Agreed 1000%.

    • Link

SO CORRECTION ON MY PART: the person in question who said the dumb things isn't 14 - I misread something. XD So I'm not sure her age. My bad. ><

      • Link

        Nah, it's okay.

  • Link

This is gross. While yes, humiliation by way of calling out someone has proven to be a good teacher time after time, this is not the way to do that. Any true SJW (before the term was meant as what you see on tumblr) would've simply told her that she was being insensitive, regardless of how she felt about the situation, and would provide informational links to support their argument.

This is just bullying and I think it's disgusting. -shakes head-

I don't know what's wrong with people, what leads someone to incite fear? That's not justice, it's punishment, and there is a difference.

    • Link

There is a difference, and I'm afraid a lot of people aren't seeing it anymore. :( It's also better that explaining WHY something is bad is way more effective than just saying it is.

Sometimes I want to go to back on tumblr and explain that and help combat bullying like this, but I know that it wouldn't make a big difference as they'd all just turn on me instead. XD

      • Link

It a shame how much being anonymous turns people into assholes. :\
I'm sure most of them wouldn't have the stones to say half of that stuff in person.
It's like the conscience just disappears on the internet, but the impact of words goes beyond the internet and can cause very real damage.

        • Link

I've actually met people like that IRL so I don't think its the anonymity (as an example kids bullying each other on facebook AND in school), but the fact anyone can read it and they feel 'bigger' when a group of people listen to them. It makes them feel important, and they want to keep that feeling vs. saying what is right or acting civilly. If that makes sense XD

          • Link

I mean, yes, people like that exist (otherwise they wouldn't end up on the internet), but I feel like it's easier to type a text to a faceless phone number than it is to say these things in person. Which is why I said most of them, rather than all of them ha. It's pretty sad and I find myself more and more disappointed with my species.

            • Link

Ah sorry - misunderstood then. XD

        • Link

          So true!
