The Curious Case of FA's Missing Money: Update by Calypso_Koalasaur

https://twitter.com/bitterbaph/status/537344424817475584?s=09

Craveu, an artist here on Weasyl, has worked with us to put together this list detailing Dragoneer's expenditures, since, you know, he just finds it so gosh dang hard. You're welcome Dragoneer! The exact total of the money is here, and you may notice it's a little less than our estimate. Added with the server drive that yielded nothing but an expensive doorstop named Jake, this puts the current total at around 20k, not 25.

Speaking of transparency, I'd like to share with you all a little bit about how FA's infrastructure works, since Dragoneer seems to be taking his time. Hopefully people will take these lax security measures into account next time before they donate:

[8:38:36 PM] Zido: neer can't afford to actually hire someone, and everyone else should be untrusted unless neer can personally know them or else there is a threat of someone will fuck shit up
[8:39:07 PM] Zido: there is no graduated access levels for FA
[8:39:09 PM] Zido: its all or nothing
[8:39:32 PM] Zido: Actually its more like, Site Admin, then Server Access
[8:39:34 PM] Zido: thats it basically

Word from Zidonuke (who worked on the code) confirms that FAs guts are a freeforall to anyone and everyone who has access. This is most likely the reason Dragoneer only hires his friends instead of professionals, because A: his friends are the only ones he can trust to not blow it up, and B: if a professional saw this they'd probably start to taste vomit.

So let's say someone does blow up the site, they can just roll it back, right? Its not like all of your hard work would just disappear.

[8:40:14 PM] Zido: and if someone screws stuff up, there is no rollback
[8:40:21 PM] Zido: its restoring an off site backup

Oops.

So what does Dragoneer have to say about this? A whole lot of nothing. As we end near the two week mark of no comment, Dragoneer has gladly engaged in embarrassing Twitter fights and favorited almost 20 pieces of artwork (mostly digimon and inflation porn) in the time he could be responding to the allegations of stolen donation funds. Now, we have learned that his website is not only grossly unsafe, but everything you put on it is unsafe as well. Please, make the exodus today. You can help force a change as much as we are. Tag all questions to us or Dragoneer on Twitter with #FATransparency and start demanding answers.

Furaffinity needs to be rewritten from the ground up if one were to fix it. Everything there is just poorly written and half-assed.
The simple fact that users are identified by their name and not their userid shows how badly organized the website pages are.
The database must be a mess also and unencrypted, of course.

If one were to fix the website they'd have to run scripts to reorganize folders, users, pages and submissions (including all database entries) and then rewrite the website to read all data properly placed.
It would most likely save a lot of space on the servers and make everything run much more smoothly...

The way the site is written is totally unprofessional and outdated.
They should just rewrite the website from the ground up and transfer the data from one database to another on a script...

This part posted here doesn't amuse me. You don't have to be a computer expert to know that all that would take is a misclick to delete all the info on FA.

If you read my previous few journals, you will begin to see that the true problem with fur affinity stretches very, very far past its code.

      • Link

I've read. I know all the drama. I've been doing my research and all for over 10 years.
I just thought that was relevant to this specif post =p

        • Link

(I don't mean drama as in "irrelevant" or anything like that. Just that I know all the shitload of things that surround FA and all).

        • Link

Oh, well thank you for doing your research! I hope this little peek into how they run things can help you further.

The scandal just keeps getting worse and worse it seems. I see you're now linking these journals on Dragoneer's fA. Are you hoping that will hasten him into making a statement? (like that will ever happen) Or are you trying to dare him into banning you?

    • Link

Provoking is not what I'm after. He already tried to ban me once and the backlash on Twitter was hilarious. I've taken a screenshot this time, so we will see if he tries to paint two comments containing links as harassment.

      • Link

I just checked again. They're gone! And you're suspended also. But I screencapped them as well.

  • Link

I wonder how many people will be banned after this.

    • Link

Probably not many. The drama with Zaush had people being banned by the truckload - this has gone way, way past something the FA staff can easily silence, and banning people would just prove how legitimate the accusations are.

Banning the group of us bringing these allegations to light would pretty much cement our stance against how Dragoneer runs the place and how badly he's been lying to the community. At this point the only concrete way he's going to be able to dig himself out is to provide in-depth receipts for FA's expenditure passing back to when Dragoneer first obtained the site - income AND outgoings. After that he's then got to answer for his nepotism and general incompetence with how the site's run, which, even if the financial records prove to be clean, is fairly damning evidence in and of itself.

      It's lose-lose for him.

Apparently Zido was trying to take FA down from the inside the whole time, from what I gather.

Shame really. Could you imagine if he'd gotten away with it and finally killed FA?

    • Link

Yes, there would have been a whole lot of note leaks and then people would have blamed everything on him and not Dragoneer.

      • Link

I don't know, Drag got quite a bit of flack when his notes were leaked last time. That's where his friendly advice to zoophiles, not-so-subtle helpful tips to Zaush and his victims, and his dealings with dog-bangers truly came to light.

Zido would've gotten a lot of blame sure, but if he really was able to tear down FA there'd likely be a huge amount of dirt on 'Neer and friends too.

        • Link

Trust me when I say we took this into account. However it was best to not let this happen which is why I forced him to come clean.

          • Link

I totally understand you're reasoning and won't fault you for it.

That said, honestly, if I was as capable as Zido I would've gone through with it. I'd gladly take a spot under the rubble just see those other guys get crushed with me.

But that's just my own view, I won't say it's rational, sane or safe, 'cause it's probably not. I could see it not only biting Zido's butt, but doing so severely. When you involve the kinda money attached to this that's a lot of impetus for people to get doxxed, harassed, and possibly even hurt in real life. To me it'd be worth it, but I say that having not the skills nor the ability to make it happen. :x

            • Link

              Also *your reasoning, I derped.

            • Link

He is also Dragoneer's co-worker and neighbor.

              • Link

Ah yeah, don't know why I neglected that detail. That would definitely put him at risk for all kinds of recourse.
