Chemical does not mean dangerous by foxboyprower
- This is something I wanted to mention when talking about the word “natural”. There’s a certain idea among part of society that “chemical” means dangerous. Everything is made of chemicals. Some chemicals are certainly dangerous, but just because you cannot pronounce the name of a chemical, does not indicate that it is dangerous. If you happen to be inquisitive enough to check the ingredients of your food, you should take the effort to understand what they are.
Additionally, if a chemical compound naturally produced by some plant and is synthesized in a lab, there is no difference between the two isolated compounds. Say chemical A is produced in a “natural” way and another chemical A is synthesized in a lab. Both are made of the same kind of molecules. It baffles me why people insist the “natural” chemical is somehow safer and better than the exact same chemical made in test tubes.
Yes there are some chemicals that are indeed dangerous and should be avoided or used with caution, but the term “chemical” shouldn't imply “poison”.

Yeah. I found out there is an EPA website devoted to keeping customers informed about the safety of chemicals. And as it turns out, blue dye is pretty questionable. But a lot of other hard to pronounce stuff is very safe.

I think someone did a thought experiment on this. They asked people whether they would be in favor of banning dihydrogen monoxide, and a lot of people said they were, even though it's just a fancy way of saying 'water'.
