The herm term debacle by CervineTeeth

After reading some comments from fellow furs and a few friends and now that I have a grasp what's going on.

I will still use the term herm in the same way i've been using it the entire time which is, Character with a full functioning set of both genitalia. My fursona is a herm and i'm a trans man so.

I felt like saying something since i've seen this blowing up on FA and tumblr as well so.

Yeah I'm a transguy who wants a character with both sets of bits, too. There isn't really a term that you can use without insulting somebody and that's just the nature of the internet. I think I'm gonna start using fantasy-herm :V

Yeah, unfortunately it's true you can't please every one. Fantasy-herm might work to. I never thought of that. Also I notice people try to speak for other groups they aren't a part of and its really eye rolling. Mostly on tumblr though bleh.

I saw someone the other day apologise for starting a petition about UCAS changing the way you put in your gender (to your legal rather than chosen) because they thought they might be stepping on toes.

        • Link

Whats a UCAS ? Gender is a tough one, Like if your at the doctors like you should tell them your birth gender because each sex has like its own host of medical problems but like for other stuff you should like be housed with the proper gender you are currently ? If that makes sense.

          • Link

UCAS is a university points system in the UK, so having your legal on there rather than preferred doesn't really make a while lot of sense. The doctor thing I completely get and do myself so.

            • Link

That doesn't make sense at all about the UCAS thing your right.

I never understood why people find the term "herm" offensive, since "hermaphrodite" is a scientific term and "herm" is just a shorter version of that term. I dunno. Like there isn't any other word (at least not any common one that I know of) to describe an organism with both male and female reproductive parts.

    • Link

I have no honest idea, I hear herm used on tv a lot to refer to animals with both parts as well. I keep hearing so many different reasons to why its offensive.

      • Link

Yeah I don't get it. :/ Oh well. People will always be offended by something.

I'm going the same way as you, Giga. Though most of my character's genitals never really matter since I hardly use them for pornography.

    • Link

True, I don't draw much porn of my own characters.

  • Link

Wait, there's a debacle going on that I don't know about with something relevant to my interests!?!?

Though it doesn't surprise me given I more or less refuse to go on FA anymore...

    • Link

I think it's all up on tumblr to.

i live under a rock on tumblr D: (made of boobs and cats)

Because the correct medical terminology that doctors use referring to their patients is intersex. It's just more sensitive an issue because hermaphrodite is used as a fetish keyword.

    • Link

Yeah, Every time i've seen herm its been in like a fetish sense. I think it fits better with anthros and intersex is better with humans but that's my opinion. I never knew they used Intersex to refer to their patients though !
