Recs? Suggestions? [ Sculptures! ] by sinereous

TL;DR Backstory:
I am looking to make some unseeliefae art "dolls" - mostly for myself for now but who knows what will happen later. I have never done a project like this before past the designing stage for lack of room, but now that I have a studio space these things can start to happen. I plan on hand-stitching and glueing the majority of this together.

Links to tutorials, books, websites or personal anecdotes that go into depth about painting glass eyes, sewing doll clothes, or mixing clay with natural materials (can you bake a pine cone??) . Most doll makers online are busy and (rightfully) super hush-hush about their methods or just outright not very nice people, so I am uncomfortable messaging people directly with questions.

((Yes, I know that Amazon exists but I have limited funds to be buying a bunch of books that end up pretty useless. And I trust the art community more than amazon reviews!)

Thanks guys, even just for reading. Have an awesome day!

I'm still waiting for alphyn doll. >:u

You could probably bake a pine cone if you soaked it in water for a few hours first. The neat thing about Sculpey clay is that you can bake it like halfway to establish the basic form, then work on the details and bake it again... so yeah, you could soak that pine cone more than once, even. I've never actually tried to bake a pine cone, mind, so plz don't burn your house down because I gave you bad advice D:

I've never made an art doll either but this is what I can say for sure. If you're sculpting things from clay individually (as opposed to molded resin or plastic parts), go with Super Sculpey, it's more resistent to chips and breaks than other Sculpey products. I used to say 'you can boil Sculpey!' all the time in the past and while it is technically true, every single boiled Sculpey thing I've painted with acrylic got sticky after a month or two. There are TONS of resources for glass eyes, stitching, etc. on the LJ fursuit community, you could probably apply it on a tiny scale. Or check out forums for ball-jointed doll peeps because they sew their own clothes for their resin anime babies all the time.

Those are all awesome ideas and don't worry I'm pretty fire paranoid so I'll be safe. I still want to do an alphyn doll too, but I think something easier to start with buah. And I do have super sculpey. It's from like.. last year but it seems to be holding up just fine so I will go for that.
