Oh. Well then. by VibrantEchoes

As it turns out, my laptop is too old to send to GeekSquad for any repairs on it. My options are to either contact Dell and hope for the best, or get a new laptop entirely. My laptop is about 5-6 years old now, so even if I do get this issue fixed, inevitably it will have to be replaced before too much longer.

It at least works right except for the on-and-off monitor issue, but that is a big issue for me since I can't draw or do much else when it does that. So I'm basically looking at getting an entirely new laptop.

And on top of that I fucking hate Windows 8 so I'll probably have to pay someone to uninstall that and put Windows 7 on it.

And for all I know my mom might insist that I get a job to pay for it all myself.

Fantastic fucking day I'm having...

I'll try and get art done when I can, but... my laptop keeps doing the monitor thing more and more often now.

Oh. Well then.

Geek squad really isn't all that great. What's wrong with it any how?

They've always done what I needed them to do and fixed any problems I've needed fixed, so. :/

It's most likely a problem with the visual ribbon getting out of place. Sometimes the monitor will decide not to work at all after the startup sequence. It'll stay like that for a while until it decides to work again. It's on-and-off, but it's been happening more and more often. If it were consistent I'd imagine some kind of virus was involved, but it's random. Since there's no support for this model of Alienware I highly doubt I can get the problem fixed. Even if I can, this laptop is 5+ years old and will start having more problems anyway, and before too much longer I'll have no choice but to replace it. Better to just replace it now instead of repairing AND replacing it.

Sounds like over all hardware failure.

Probably. Aaand I doubt I can get that fixed, like I said.

It's fixable, it's just a few things that need replacing. Take it to a friend that knows how to fix it, otherwise, you'll pay through the nose to have it done.

That's the problem; I don't -have- any friends that can fix this and if I have to get it replaced I may not be able to do that. Even if I can, I'd rather not pay for repairs on a laptop that will have to be replaced entirely anyway, I'd rather just replace it and save money in the long run.
