Question About Tag Modifying Etiquette by driprat

What is the etiquette on modifying another artist's tags?

A recent page of T-PoP had it's tags modified by another user. Now it's true that there is some light bondage in T-PoP but I didn't list "bondage" as a tag because I didn't make the comic to indulge anyone's fetishes. I feel like it's someone deciding for me what my art is about. I think the assumption people have is that the tags represent what the artist thinks of his own work, whether they made the tag or not.

I don't think whoever altered the tag did it out of malevolence, I actually think they thought they were helping. So I am not making a judgement on the guy's motivations.

Am I wrong in being a little upset? And what is to stop someone who wants to use the tag system from being an ass and tagging it "Pedophilia" or something equally heinous?

The tags here are so iffy to me. On one hand I love it when someone realizes my work includes something that maybe I forgot to add/didn't know it existed. It ups my exposure! On the other hand, I don't always intend for those things to be a focus in the work.

It's this huge gray area, and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet because it's so new and very imageboard like. That said, if it does happen, I usually remove the tag and make a little note in the description, thanking the anonymous for trying to help, but that I've decided to omit that tag for other reasons.

I have to agree with Hazellona but for the time being I turned it off for the time being.

Section 1. B. 2. of the Community Guidelines covers this:

If someone is found to be abusing this system by adding irrelevant or harassing tags, they will have their right to tag others' works revoked

That being said, it really, really depends. I can see tag history and there seems to be no malevolence. The two main points of tagging are 1: so your work can be discovered more easily by people, and 2: so people who don't want to see themes depicted in your work can avoid seeing them. We have a strong vs. poor quality tags example in our tagging guideline, where we consider the relevance of a tag to its submission. I wouldn't say a bondage tag is entirely irrelevant in the question in piece, but maybe something like light_bondage would be a fair compromise? I can understand where you are coming from, though. I'll bring this up later with some other staff. At the very least, I can tell you that we can easily take care of tagging troublemakers.

      Good to know, thank you

If you are talking about me, then yes. I marked it as bondage because they are tied up. They are being bound, fetish or no fetish. It's part of my tag filtering and it's to help your art be that much more searchable. I'm not a tag troll (I actively tag things that aren't tagged well enough) and am afraid to be marked as such due to people being offended. I only tag what's in the image and nothing more.

Well for this particular project I do not want it to be searchable because of that. I think it brings in people who would ultimately be disapointed or would miss the goal of the project. I understand you don't mean to upset (and I wouldn't of known you added the tags if you hadn't of said anything) but I would prefer people don't alter the tags.

I don't really get the whole tag thing here? You can turn off those permissions, though.
