The 2D Disney films I haven't seen by Slainmonkey

I have to say that by the later half for of the 90's and 2000's there was a number of Disney animated films I never saw for a number of reasons. Some of that is because I not being a fan of most of their 90's output kinda found myself jaded towards the studio and then entering high school/ kinda stopped watching animation all together. Some of them I caught up with years later on television and others I still haven too this day. This is the list of 2D Disney animated films I have never seen.

Mulan (1998)

The Emperor's New Groove (2000)

Lilo & Stitch (2002) - Clearly the most popular on this list.

Treasure Planet (2002)

Winnie the Pooh (2011) - I failed to catch up on this one last year.

Now I have the intention in the near future to make time to watch each one of these with an open mind (as much as I can) and give my opinions likely in the form of some kind of review. I will go into these with a fresh mind set though will be the same overly critical bastard I am about everything I watch. This I feel is kinda something I should have taken the time to do a long time ago.

I loved Lilo and Stitch for having such fresh material, I think that's part of why it's popular, along with the appealing characters. Haven't bothered to see Winnie the Pooh yet though either.

It's kinda odd how the 80's disney film were hated for being a departure from the Disney mold, where as something like Lilo and Stitch has been praised for it. It makes me wonder if it's because by Pocahontas it was getting clear the Disney mold people yearned for back then had become moldy. Having said that being a fan of those 80's departures it could be fun to see how I view it.

A lot of people like what's familiar and formulaic, guess that's why rehashed sequels and remakes fare so well at the box office. Pocahontas lacked any depth to its characters, so aside from the visuals, it was very forgettable to me. I'm interested to hear what you think of this bunch once you see them.

I also found Princess and the Frog to be very dire.....it got to a point where it just seemed to be trying too hard to be a Disney film, just ticking the boxes in what people think a Disney film should have to the point the film has nothing of offer of it's own. It all started to feel like a copy of a copy to me. As such seeing ones that do mix up the formula would be refreshing even if I don't actually like them.....though I hope I do.

What's funny about Princess and the Frog is it was supposed to be an attempt to break the mold on a classic fairy tale, yet fell into the same old scheme of most Disney movies in the process.

It fell victim of most of the same things that made me hate Little Mermaid......both also have very messed up ideas.

    Mulan was really good

I guess those others were good too, but Treasure Planet was forgettable to me. But Pooh has always been a classic so that should be good, I just don't remember it

I know some people were disappointed with last years Pooh outing, it should be fun to see how these fair.

Lilo and Stitch is probably my favorite Disney movie hands down. That is saying a lot.

The Emperor's New Groove is also excellent. Mulan is pretty good too. And the newest Winnie the Pooh movie was really cute, I enjoyed it a lot.

I still haven't seen Treasure Planet.

Treasure Planet seems to be on of the big hated Disney films, then again I liked Black Cauldron which is even more hated so we shall see. It'll be interesting to gain my feelings on these all, particularly since at the time I never gave them a chance.

There are people who really like Treasure Planet a lot. It seems to have a small but dedicated fanbase, kind of like Atlantis does.

I haven't seen that one either.

Also I do kind of like The Black Cauldron. It's pretty different from the book though.

Atlantis didn't do much for me honestly......it's not bad but it didn't draw me in either kinda leaving me rather indifferent towards it. Black Cauldron I think is pretty underrated really, while I don't think it's perfect I do think it manages to be compelling. Also has the most graphic villain death in a Disney animated films....a very cool villain death if I may say so.

            Yeah, that was pretty rad.
