PSA - Funny Comments by Majatek

I am not someone to take things SRS BZNS 24/7, and I understand that some of us get paid for our work, and that it is essentially a job to others.
However, to see users fail to understand that they're drawing furry porn (of all things) and then make it clear that they're not ready for the feedback - let it be negative critique, funny jokes, ridicule or otherwise - is alarming to say the least.

We should all know fully well that “furry” art in itself is a fetish at its most basic form.

If you're not ready - or unknowing - for what you're getting yourself into, then you're not ready to post furry porn.
Not psychologically, anyway.

Oh, and a couple of things - as an artist, do not defend your work. Doing so proves that you're unable to better yourself. Try to take all things (good or bad) in your stride, and finally, try to not be so serious. I know that your art may be important to you and/or your friends, but that doesn't mean you should let negativity affect you so easily.

Generally, just lighten up please. Thank you.

People could always stand to lighten up a bit, definitely. No matter what the medium is, we'll always have room for improvement. This reminds me of when someone asks for critique, but they specify to only critique one area and are overconfident in the other parts. It tends not to work like that.

That being said, there's a fine line between constructive critique and just being negative.

Very true, and it doesn't help that some overreact to said feedback - regardless of whether it's constructive, or just plain antagonistic. There are so many issues with this sort of behaviour. As a moderator of a few forums and groups, I know how it only makes it harder for all of us to just get along. Caustic behaviour in society is practically everywhere, and it's just plain disappointing...

Hence this journal. Hopefully it could be used as a helpful reminder to those who need it so that we can build a better and stronger community. In the end I just hope that we're all more aware of each other - and that little bit more accepting.

I'm totally in agreement here. You tend to grow thick skin as a mod... and don't get me wrong, Weasyl's userbase has overall been utterly sweet and understanding. There's always going to be some bad apples, though, who are just waiting for an opportunity to lash out. Comes with the territory I guess. Finding the right balance is important... speak softly, and carry a big stick.

Our goal is definitely to build that kind of strong community here, from users to the forums to the entire staff. Everyone needs to be accountable to each other. We have so much potential here, and I'm going to do everything in my power to see this site come to its full realization. It's not a one person job though, it'll take an entire community of people willing to work together. We'll have successes and failures, I'm sure, but we're giving it our best shot.

And you're all doing great! Each and every one behind not just maintaining, but also pushing forward with progress for this place. c:

Hopefully as this website matures, so too will its userbase as a whole. Yes, even the "bad apples" have talent and have the capacity to be great. We just need time, respect, and a whole lot of kindness.

Thank you, the kind words are appreciated. :) Indeed. I do hope people read this journal/conversation and take it to heart.

Furry isn't a fetish by definition, but it is something that should be treated like one. It's weird, esoteric, and something to be kept out of the eyes of the general public 24/7, save for cons or monthly meets. That being said, I agree with everything else in this journal.

Yup, pretty much exactly what I wanted to say about how one should treat "furry" in general. Thanks for clarifying that for me. c:
