Wish Me Luck by gregmech

Tomorrow I have court for a traffic ticket that I got in early November 2013. What really scares me about it is that I don't know what's going to happen with it.

I was coming home from Walmart and a gas station because the Tahoe we had at the time liked to eat about 2 quarts of oil between oil changes, and it as usual needed a splash in the tank to keep it going. Well on the way home from Walmart (I had gotten gas first) I was driving down Main St. when someone decided that they didn't want the right lane which I was giving them, and instead wanted the left lane where I was going about 50 mph in. Well needless to say, they cut me off and I had to whip into the right lane or risk flipping them down the hill and across the other two lanes of traffic. Thankfully, it was 11ish pm and Prattville closes down at 9pm. I'm not joking. Apparently, I irritated him, because next thing I know, hes trying to stay next to me and I don't know why. I slow down from about 40 to 35 to let him pas, but oh no. He wants to stay on me for some reason. Doing down the next hill, I accelerate to 60 just from inertia, but I keep myself at about 55 to try and get some space between us. No go. He wants to stay right next to my rear wheels. Kinda interesting given he's in a 2006-2011 Honda Civic with Honda 17" rims. I don't know what he was thinking, but as we came to a stoplight, he stopped short where I stopped gradually. Then for some reason he just creeped past me and stared me down for some reason. "I'm sorry, do you envy me somehow? Do you not see the dent in the rear door and the slightly crushed in bumper? What the hell is your problem?"

After that little showing, I decided to look at the gas station across the street in his direction to hide the fact that I was wondering what he was doing. What I saw really made me get scared then. For some reason, he was digging around under his seat and in his door pocket and glaring at me like he was looking for something for me. Realizing that this probably wasn't conducive to my health, I started looking for an escape route. He had already shown me that he was looking to fight someone either behind the wheel or face to face. However, I did not know what he was going to pull out from under his seat, and after he put his right hand on the wheel, I didn't see his left hand so I didn't know what he was holding; be it a cell phone, knife, firearm, pipe bomb, I didn't want to find out. Since I could turn right onto Fairview Avenue/State Highway 31, I thought about that, but then a semi came through town and I couldn't really see if anything else was coming around the corner since people tend to go a little bit faster than normal at night. Besides that, it was a blind corner, so I wasn't going to try and risk that, and end up getting T-boned by another semi. That was more of a judgement call on my side, but I would have rather gotten a ticket or at best gotten away than get hit by a possible 80,000lb truck.

What's more, on that road, going to downtown, there's more roads on the left than there are from the right, however, with the man demanding and blocking the left lane, I could not readily get there. What's worse, most of the roads on the right converge and either force you to go left, or take you to another town. There were some neighborhoods I could have taken before, however, what would the point be if I got lost (I don't know that neighborhood that well) and then having the person find me again, only to chase me into a dead end? There was however one way I could have tricked him. There is a railroad that goes over Main St. in Prattville, but just before that, there was a small road on the right which went up the hill next to the rail road. If I timed it correctly, I could have slid the Tahoe up that road, and he would be blocked into going straight into downtown, but I would be now stuck in my own dead end street, but with no one else around, I could easily turn around, go back up the hill, and then take a right (left from where we just were) into a neighborhood I know, and can escape from by doubling back on myself and taking highway 31 to the next highway intersection that I would take a right onto to get home. Then on that road, we would be traveling fast enough that he would not have time to turn around to try and chase me again, so I was betting on that to aide in my get away from him.

Ironically, none of that happened because a city police officer was behind a bank on the left side of the road if you were looking down the road from where we were at the stoplight. He pulled me over and the next thing I see, there's a highway patrolman in a new Chevrolet Caprice pursuit car stopping to talk to the officer and then driving down into downtown. It took me 3 days to stop shaking and then a month to stop jumping at every blue Civic LX Coupe that I saw in town. Now, tomorrow at 8am, is my trial for pleading not guilty in traffic court. Wish me luck guys. I'll let you know what happens through some friends of mine. After I get this off my plate, I can concentrate completely on getting a job.

Wish Me Luck
