Bullying for Better Service by sixrabbits

I honestly don't get why people get really nasty and try to make cashiers bend over backwards for them. Sorry, I'm not going to do more for someone that's a jerk to me.

A woman was like that today.
Ugh. Just super nasty to me, to other customers, and to the manager.

Then another customer came up and was super nice. So I gave her an extra coupon and helped her sign up for a class.
I always give nice people the best service I can, because they make my day better and they deserve to be rewarded for that.

Same goes for me and internet trolls vs. those who hold up justice.

Maybe there are customers that are super because, they want to try to test the motto "The customer is always right."

The customer is almost never right, in truth.
One lady insisted that I ring up her charges twice because clearly I was scanning the coupon wrong and that's why it said it wasn't stacking on top of her other coupon.

That`s very true. I see. That reminds me. One of friend of my older sister works at a Circle K close to me. He said that this one guy wanted to buy beer for cheaper than the price tag, but that only applied to a certain brand of beer.

Oh yeah, I hate when we do sales like that because people never read the sign to see the exclusions, then they stand there and argue about it.

I see. I will say that plays a part in it and I will add that they just do not want to pay the full price. That reminds me. I think he said that a lady wanted a free refill even though I am pretty sure that Circle K does not work like that.

Yeah, no one wants to pay full price for anything. Whenever people ask me "why does this cost so much" I always want to say "because this wasn't made in a sweat shop by children being paid pennies by the hour".

Gah, this type of thing irked me too when I had a small dose of working retail last year. I never wanted to help rude people, and frankly, a lot of their anger was misplaced or not even justified. (Most were about discounts / sales, and became angry because THEY misread the coupon / advert. I'm sorry you can't follow directions, or go "Darn, sorry, I misread that," like a regular person.)

I also disliked the mentality of "the customer is always right" because it felt like rewarding terrible behavior.

Yeah. Just last night a lady got really nasty with me because she didn't read that only ONE brand of stuff was on sale, not everything in that section. She actually said "Well you should put that on the sign!" Um... it is, right there under the 50% off is the brand name in big bold print.
We also don't take back clearance items (because it's being cleared out for a reason) and yet this one woman whined for five minutes until the manager just gave her a refund. It makes me wonder why we even bother having any policies when all one has to do is whine or pitch a fit to get one's way.

I also try to reward nice customers. a few times I have given people free cookies because they gave me a good tip or they were really nice :) What's awesome about where I work Is that my boss is awesome and will only put up with shit to a certain degree but she wont let people bully us and she wont give out stuff for free just cause someone bitched. And she has taught me to stand my ground as well. like, I try to be as nice and helpful as possible, but I wont give in to people trying to get free things. She backs us up. But that's really the ONLY thing I like about my job lol
