See you, 2013, it's been swell! :)

With each year that goes by, our local community has been getting more active & we've been meeting lots of new friends! I chose a few events from the past year to reflect upon:

After a jam-packed 2012, we all took a break before a handful of us packed up and flew to Ontario for Furnal Equinox, the largest furry convention in Canada! This year there were over 750 attendees & 206 fursuiters in the parade! This year the convention was held at a new venue, closer to the airport. The Sheraton Toronto Airport Hotel and Conference Centre was an even larger space than the last hotel, and with that, made for even more fun to be had!

In April, Breaker hosted what has so far become the last FBT (Furry Bar Takeover) at Menz Bar. Hopefully it won't truely be the LAST, but we haven't had another one since. There were 5 attendees with Breaker DJing that night. It was nostalgic!

In June, Animaritime was held in Fredericton, New Brunswick with over 1,700 attendees and a small handful of those were some Maritime fursuiters! Way to represent the furry fandom!!

In July, Halifax hosts the PRIDE Festival, which is the largest in Atlantic Canada! We decided to have a meetup at the Halifax Commons during the Dykes Vs. Divas softball game. We had a pretty large group, including Featheredragon, a fantastic photographer visiting us from Ontario! At the end of the week was the PRIDE parade, then a meetup in the Halifax Public Gardens

In August, an event that we have looked forward to since last August finally arrived...the 9th Annual OMGWTFBBQ!? in Halifax, Nova Scotia! It's a one day event where we invite furs from all over the Maritimes (and further!) to join us in National Historic site, York Redoubt (yes, CANNONS!) which overlooks the mouth of Halifax Harbour. Furrydrake is the Master of the Grill and the group sends a MASSIVE THANK-YOU for all the work he does for this day, every year! This year he even brought KEGS of iced tea and lemonade! He makes all of the burgers himself (mmmm bacon-infused) as well as brings all the condiments...even the grill itself! Many other attendees brought drinks, snacks, candies, fruit/veggies & CAKES (thank-you to our local baker, Jacob for the homemade cakes!) Really...everyone pitches in and makes this the most special meetup of the entire year! It really is what this group is all about! We even thank the PEI Furs, New Brunswick Furs, and those who came from all over to spend the day with us! We even had 20 fursuiters challenge the heat of the day to frolik around the park! We are all looking forward to next year, which will mark 10 YEARS OF THE OMGWTFBBQ!?! I hope you all can make it!

In September, everyone was feeling a little bit of post-BBQ depression, so there were some inpromptu meetups like a day in the Halifax Public Gardens and a house party.

Local Sci-Fi Convention Hal-Con was around the corner in November, and although this year's con was met with some disorganization, quite a few local furs attended and BabyFox was even a Dealer there! Here's hoping next year's is a big success!

In December there were two meetups held on the same day (it's a busy time of the year!) but both were a big success Warlock & Jacob hosted a meetup at Plan B, which is a small co-op space for local businesses & artists. It also has a large room in back which is used as gallery space and part of their cafe. This meetup was to celebrate three local furries' birthdays (Sigi, Warlock and MoonDog) as well as "The Return of the Gingerbread Crackhouse"..where we buy a gingerbread house and just go crazy decorating it! x) Jacob made three cakes, each custom made for the three birthday honourees!! We also had a small Secret Santa exchange. After this meetup, there was a small get together for non-sugary food at Boston Pizza.

That night, Shugo hosted a Christmas Party Potluck (we love food!) at his place in Sackville. Blooski & BabyFox were there in fursuit & a darn good time was had by all!! Now this is how the holidays should be spent!

So, as we come to a close on 2013, we have some great memories from this year, which will encourage us to make even more next year!! With all of these activites our group has grown in numbers, with the NSFurs forum passing 250 members!! Thank you for all the great memories over the years!
