Progress of Man by HereifAnywhere

We found him on a long hike into the mountains.
At first we were not sure he was a human.
The trees and grasses grew all over his body.
His fingers were tipped with leaves, his arms were covered in bark.
His body seemed to be nothing more then green moss and grass.
The hair a top his head was replaced with leaves from a willow tree.
His hat was a lily pad with a single flower growing from it.
His was not wearing any shoes they were set nicely next to were he sat.
Where they had became decent sized mushrooms.
He was sitting with his logged legs crossed.
His sight towards the sun, and his arms outstretched as if going to hug someone.
We thought this was a marvel of nature, until we all let out the breath we were holding.
His head slowly bent down to look at us, the wood creaked while his head moved.
His eyes opened up to reveal one ,a hollow not hole with a small flame inside.
The other was a small blue flower,
When he blinked the flower closed and the flame went out leaving a smoke trail.
He did not move his arms they only swayed with his head movement.
"Hello there," He said with the forest breeze.
It was almost impossible to hear, the trees around repeated his hello for us.
"What brings you here," He said slowly.
I know it is odd, but I will never forget how his breath smelled of earth after a rain.
How his one eye did not set him a blaze, instead it gave his body a gentle smoky scent.
The entire forest came to life with his movement, not animals, but one could feel the plants tug at him so he could look around, How the trees seemed happy to hear him, and the flowers opened brightly just to light his face up so all could see him. We could not move We were stuck in amazement of this man and his life with the forest around him.
"You did not answer my question, what brings you to where I sit?"
We could only look upon this man.
"What happened to you?" Asked one of us.
He looked himself over.
"Nothing," He answered. "I took a seat to enjoy the forest around me."
"I have not stopped enjoying it yet. So I decided not to leave."
"I will still sit here until the day comes when I grow sick of it."
We did not know what to say to that.
We could only slowly walk away from this man.
The last I saw of him was over my shoulder.
He tilted his head back to look upon the sun once more.
The forest calmed down and returned to what I assume now is normal.
We all left not knowing what to make of what we saw that day.
The only reason I tell you all of this, because after a few years I ran into an odd sight again.
It was after along drive into town.
Tar and concrete had been poured over his body.
His fingers were tipped with lights and his arms covered in electrical cables.
His body was nothing more then streets and tar.
He had no hair but a traffic light a top his head.
His shoes were bolted to his feet.
He was kneeling down on his legs of sewage pipes.
His head hung low looking down at his empty hands.
All this was seen as a marvel f man's progress.
I reached out to tighten a burnt out light on his finger.
