follow friday + new computer!! by cubey

i'm really happy to see so much activity sprouting up on weasyl lately! welcome to a finally decent art site, make yourself at home, please don't go back to furaffinity etc.

my family's been moving over the past week so i've been fairly busy

but it's friday, so here's some of my favorite artists for all you newbies who need some more artists to follow

lamm squareheart henzy muzz ktullanyx
ghost irootie cornfrosty fivel r-wolfe
miri cosmic whitekitestrings zyraxus denim

also, i got a new computer! it is a surface pro 2, which looks like a crappy windows-mobile ipad but it's actually a super powerful, high resolution wacom-enabled artistic tool. kind of like a tiny cintiq i can carry around. * v *

i'm still working out how to translate my workspace from my laptop to this, but i'm pretty confident i can start to be more productive than i was before.

follow friday + new computer!!

Congrats on the computer! Make sure you register it on the Surface website -- if your charger or stylus goes missing or breaks they'll send you a replacement! Same goes for the type cover -- definitely register that before the dang serial number gets filed off. It was on the tiniest bit where the keyboard connects to the underside of the Surface on the old type cover. You don't wanna end up finding out about that the hard way like me...
Question, how is the new kickstand angle they added? Do you find it easy to draw with it that way? Have you tried any other styli with it? I like to keep my Surface on a mount that's on a Tripod Ball head when I work since the kickstand isn't enough on the old Surface.

oh dang, so that's where the serial number is! i had to stop to look for it but it's in a tricky place.

the new angle they added is the 45 degree one, right? that's the angle i use most often, it's really easy to work this way. from my sitting position at my desk it seems very close to optimal. especially with such an absurd resolution, i find it easy to hang over it like a lightbox so i can get up close and personal with the pixels

a lot of reviews said you NEED a bamboo feel stylus but right now the stock one is doing just fine, so i'm not sure i'm enough of a snob to actually need one? i'll probably get one anyway though because i really want to be able to middle-click

I've used a lot of styli with the Surface Pro and while the Feel stylus has a nice heft to it I find its a bit too small. The Surface Pro series actually uses the old Wacom Penabled digitizer, so it is compatible with a host of other styli. I keep a list of the ones I've personally used, and I like the Motion Computing L-Series stylus (http://astore.amazon.com/blkmkt-20/detail/B000A3YEQI). That said, I tend to stick with the included Surface pen when I want a nice light pen, the Feel Stylus is good for its interchangeable nibs and the Motion Computing stylus has a nice shape to it. No Penabled/Feel it pens have more than one click button unfortunately, unless that has changed recently.
I really wish there were a Penabled pen with the size and shape of the Wacom Classic pen for the Intuos/Cintiq line, but Wacom's gotta differentiate some way, I guess.
