Rules for Commissioning by Atreya

Okay, for folks who have commissioned me in the past, thank you for your support. However, for those of you who will in the future, I want to make something extremely clear. If you have any issues with what I'm about to say, I should specify that I will make no exceptions whatsoever. If I am doing something for you I will work very hard to please you, but I will not "draw more like (Insert Name Here)". My drawing style, while still roughly undefined, is my drawing style. If you have not looked through my gallery, and you don't know what to expect in terms of how I draw, that is what progress sketches are for and it is why I send them. If you don't like my drawing style the solution is reasonable to deduce; do not commission me. If you have changes you want me to make early on, tell me, but they will not be a sacrifice to my creative nature or my style. Changing eye shapes, making something bigger or smaller, that's okay! Asking me to draw like another artist is rude and out of the question. This is not done to provoke a fight, but it's personally offensive to me when you ask things like this. Please take this into account when commissioning me.

This being said, I am still absolutely opened for commissions with plenty of slots. This will not deter me from working hard for people who appreciate the ridiculous amount of effort and time I put into my drawings and finished pieces.

Thank you.

...People actually ask you to do that?

I've had a couple of people make comments in previous years. Since I'm opening for commissions and Anthrocon is coming soon, I wanted to make my stand clear. Like, "Can you do the eyes kind of like _______ does them?" or "Can you draw it less cartoony?", have been said to me. It's nothing against anyone, but I personally consider it offensive. I think to ask any artist to change how they draw things is really rude! How can you ask someone to mimic, or surrender their creative control, not in terms of character design, but stylistically!
