Character Development by Atreya

So, I'm on the brink of beginning my comic. I'm going to do some more perspective work before I actually begin, and of course I'll be doing warm up sketches as I do every day, though whether I post them to my account is less certain (let me know if you prefer to see some sketch layouts and skeletons). What I'm really excited about is the character development stage; I've always posted random drawings in the past and my studies to show any improvement I'm making in my style, proportions, etc.

Up until now I was worried my drawings didn't carry enough life, or worth to be shown page to page on a comic that actually meant something to me. Her Master's Kitten was a phase where I thought I was ready, but as I've come to terms with the facts that the comic I was doing then had no real solidarity I've made a decision to rework it, and Knight of Leaves at the forefront of my projects. Another thing I failed to realize back then was the fact that characters are the legs in which a good novel, graphic or literary, places its weight on. Characters help to relate, amuse, and quicken the heartbeat of a reader and in this I want to be devout to them. I always wanted to make good stories, and making good characters is an important stepping stone in that. While I'm not a professional by any standards, I still stand firm in giving this strong advice to anyone who has the desire to push stories to an audience; do not put your characters on the backburner of your projects. Don't overshadow them with catchy backgrounds, pornography, or a heavily thought-out story (though, it is good to have a strong notion of this last one before beginning). Storytelling is great, but if you can't bring your characters to life, a story is useless.

As a side note: I don't know if I'll be successful in doing what I want to do, but I sure as hell am going to try my absolute hardest to make my readers feel fuzzy inside! (I had a really motivational talk with my sister, who's a really good writer.)
