School by SleepyMonster

I'm mostly making this journal to push down my plushie commission journal, but I can also use a good rant about school.

I hate my school, I mean I guess you can't expect much from a community college, but if a community college is a nasty sandwich, then the department I'm in is that sandwich after it has been digested and ejected.

My department, electronics, has very very few students. As a result it gets almost no funding, and as a result to that they hire the shittiest lowest paying teachers they can find. We have three teachers, one is okay except that you can tell he's not trained to be a teacher, he's just done the job forever. He knows what he is talking about, but he often doesn't know how to answer questions. The next one is okay-ish, but again he often doesn't know how to answer questions, plus he doesn't really like to practice basic hygiene so he often smells very bad. The third teacher is the worst, he spends 1/3 of the class complaining about his high school students, 1/3 of the class being confused, and the last 1/3 of the class teaching things that are wrong. He never ever knows the answer to any questions, in fact if he comes up with an answer it's always WRONG, and then if you believe him and stick with the answer he'll refer to his answer book and mark it wrong. It's always best to ignore him completely and read the book, except that the books he orders are always riddled with misinformation and outdated information. Luckily the first teacher is usually around to ask if you really really need help, and that teacher can sometimes help, so hey there's that. I have no idea if I'm going to be able to even use this degree, I'm hoping it at least will get me in the door and then I can learn on the job. Fingers crossed.

Oh, also PPCC ejected me from a class for no reason, with no notice, and won't let me re-enroll in it. HOW FUCKING WONDERFUL! THANKS PPCC!

OH! One more thing, I have to take an internship, no problem I'm happy about that part, what I'm not happy about is that it's counted as a class that is three credit hours, which means I have to PAY $450 to take an internship. NOT ONLY THAT, but the school will not allow us to take a PAID internship, so not only does that make it harder to land an internship, it also means that I am paying people to work. FUCK THIS SCHOOL.

I'm so glad this is my last semester.

I can sympathize with with college woes. When I went to the local 2yr junior college, I wanted to enroll in massage therapy classes and the lady in charge of helping students with enrollments REFUSED to let me take any of those classes and forced me into other classes I had no interest in (I ended up failing one of them as a result). Ugh, your school situation is fucking horrid in comparison though, and I'll be happy for you once you get out of there!

Woah, they actually wouldn't let you take the classes you wanted? That is the stupidist thing I've ever heard!

I've never understood the concept of internships. The best one is the internship where they pay you a modest fee to do work for them, and I thought the worst one was when they didn't pay you anything and you basically did work for the company for free in exchange for work experience on a resume. but... paying the company so that you can do work for them for free? It just sounds so much more like a scam to me. :(

Well an internship is SUPPOSED to be a complete learning experience. Techniquely you're there to learn, you're not supposed to do real work or anything, you're supposed to observe and after a while do. Almost no company in the world treats and internship like this. However, having and internship will help me get a job, maybe even at the place were I do the internship, MOST companies actually want to give paid internships, and they are very very suspicious of unpaid interns, which is why it's actually harder to land an intership when you have to have it unpaid.

I'm just very frustrated that it's counted as a class and I have to pay the college to take it. It feels like having to pay someone to make them a plushie, it's just not right.

I'd offer you a hug, but the best I can do is wish you the best of luck. Hopefully everything turns out well. :)

I'm glad I got into a good college. :\ They paid my tuition for 4 years and the people are pretty cool. I have a few bad teachers but, they're nowhere near as bad as yours. @_@ Apparently they pay everyone's tuition, though. It's pretty nice.

Wow you're super lucky! I have a really high IQ and because of that I had some chances at some really good scholorships at some good schools, but I was a messed up kid and I missed the oppritunity. I probably could have tried again, but I didn't know how, bleh.

I think every school has bad teachers, at least in America, but it's almost impossible to fire them. Our school system seriously needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. But hey, why waste money on educating people thus ensuring a great furture for our country when we can just continue pouring money in a military that's already was too friggin huge?

Yeah, I think so. I'm mainly here because the music department kicks ass.

But, politicians can't get re-elected if the masses are fearing terrorism (that's usually caused by our politicians...)! Rebuilding from the ground up might not be too great of an idea either. That would probably just usurp a year or two of education. I think "No child left behind" should be tweaked to "No child left behind...unless they really don't want to go forward". Also, the hiring part isn't really broken. The evaluations for tenure, on the other hand...
