Stressing over a damaged car by Atroxi

So, get home from work this morning, my boyfriend and I are chilling at our respective computers playing WoW when we hear a crunch. Then a car alarm. I look out the window and this guy in a tan jeep is backing up fast as he can then takes off like a bat outta hell. He hit our car. Smashed in the entire back end to the point the trunk won't latch and one of the tail lights was smashed. Two people witnessed it, one being the landlord's fiance, who knew exactly who he was.

So, we leave a note on the door to this guys apartment, giving insurance info and phone number, he gets back to us about 5 hours later. He only has basic coverage. Sooo, we are most likely going to have to pay the deductible of $500 for this jerk wad who just drove off after smashing our car. Oh yea. And we called the sheriff, and they wouldn't even come out. Even though it was a hit and run. They told us we'd have to figure out who it was and get their insurance info, or just be SOL basically, since it was on private property. Seriously? So if you're in a parking lot, hit someones car, damage it greatly, and drive away, they will be the one stuck paying whatever their insurance won't cover, and the police won't even come to take a report? What kind of logic is that? I dunno. I'm just stressed.

I just needed to vent. Q AQ I am so unprofessional, but at least this is my hobby I guess. I can't keep things like this bottled up.

The part that gets me, what if the guy like, denied it was him. Then we would be stuck paying the deductible, and he'd walk off free. We did find damage on his jeep that matched our car and took pictures. We took pictures of everything just in case we need to go to court over things. The nice fresh tire tracks in the snow that show where he rammed our car, then backed up and peeled out were very nice additions. Especially with the nice sunny day we had. Oh man.

yeah taking photos is good cause you also dunno what the insurance might require as proof. but jeez he could have left a note or something, he clearly thought he MIGHT get away with it. i guess he figured once you were knocking on his door there was no point denying it, since you'd clearly caught him.

We had to leave a note on their door. They were leaving when they hit the car. I recognized the jeep though, boyfriend didn't get a good look from his room, so I'd have known it when I saw it again, it was only thanks to the landlords fiance that we knew which apartment he lived in. Just. Ugh. PEOPLE. I should be sleeping now, but I can't calm down. Manface is out at the insurance company, getting a quote and all that good stuff, showing all the photos, and hopefully seeing if he can get any sort of compensation since it was technically a hit and run. But I doubt it. The police around her suck.

yo i mean vent all you need to cause legit? that's a damn good reason to vent. it's not like BOOHOO MOM MADE ME DO DISHES or WEH MY MANAGER TOLD ME TO TAKE SHORTER SMOKE BREAKS or HURFDURF A POPUFUR CALLED ME A DESIGN THIEEF or something
it's like a real world concern with some major potential ramifications
            so yknow
            vent away

Oh man. Man face just got home. I guess the guy is playing the "It wasn't me" game. Claiming he wasn't even home. When myself and two others saw it happen. We found pieces of his bumper under the car, took pics of where they are missing on his car. He has shady insurance. That bare minimum crap that pretty much only keeps you out of jail

we've had to use the shitty insurance before because of financial difficulties but man if you're gonna use it you gotta be CAREFUL. he obviously wasn't.

so if he wants to drag it to court well hey go the fuck ahead you got pictures and witnesses.

Yep. Gonna have to contact the lady in the next building and the landlords Lady to see if they'd be willing to be witnesses or write statements or anything useful. I guess even if his insurance company backs him IP it'll take months for us to get reimbursed, so we'd be stuck paying the full amount now to fix it, that'd be about $2,000 as quoted by the mechanic today.

I don't get how people can just sit there and smile while lying to your face. ESPECIALLY with witnesses. I mean, how else would we have figured out what apartment to leave a note on? Four buildings away even.
