Escaping the drama? I don't think so. by YamatoIouko

So, to those of you here on Weasyl: do you think changing a web site will really change things? The furry fandom is still made up of the same people, no matter what site they're on. What makes you think that the infighting and toxic bullshit that was on FA won't follow?

This isn't a cut & paste of my FA journal on the subject, but it's a rewording of my thoughts. The fandom is the same fandom, no matter where it goes. Meaning the same problems will plague it; and the biggest problem I see is the lack of respect and concern we have for one another. I remember joining this fandom and feeling good about it. Through all the bad, I've felt good about being included in this group of people.

Until I saw how people treated one another over the issues on FA. I saw toxicity and bile like I've never known in furries. I may have said some thing which were ire-inducing, but at least I didn't attack people themselves. I...are you all really going to just go back to pretending like nothing happened? After what you all said to one another?

Why am I a part of a fandom that hates itself so much...? I use to really believe in us as a group...

Escaping the drama? I don't think so.

There is no furry 'community' just as there is no 'gay' or 'black' or 'christian' community. There is only individuals for that is what makes up a group. People can generally only closely know about 150-300 people before remembering names and such becomes impossible (Dunbar's number). So some furs just throw a shitstorm about it, regroup and find out who they really want to associate with. Then a few weeks (or months) it all dies down and no one ever speaks of it ever again as usual.

And honestly the in-fighting I see isn't that crazy. I'm part of the anarcho capitalist and libertarian community and used to post on YouTube comments. Yeah. If you want to see in-fighting and drama, holy shit. It's a fun spectator kind of sport among libertarian circles; especially in the terribad pit of despair known as YouTube comments.

But yeah, here's hoping this drama dies soon. I've seen ED articles less crazy than the shitstorm from this lately.

Finally, to expand on I said on FA, while it's true I won't be losing sleep over it--I have my own group of friends in and out of the fandom--all the bile I will admit IS getting kinda annoying/stressful to watch in light of my own irl nonsense.
